"I had heard that this company was the best and were professional arborists so I braced myself for the estimate. Other less trained companies had come and estimated the job around $1000. The representative looked at the trees and told me that my gardener had been doing a good job pruning, and that it would be best to let him continue, and wait another year. He was interested in protecting the health of the trees, not just a quick profit like other companies had been. This is the sign of a true professional. When the trees get overgrown, I will only contact them."

"Byron is very prompt with returning calls. Prices are reasonable and fair. Arrived on time with a team that was efficient, honest and hard working. We had several trees in desperate need of trimming to be fire compliant. They also dropped several trees for us and cut them into fireplace size. We hired them to come back and remove another dead oak tree in a different area. When it comes to customer service, Byron is your man. We highly recommend Superior Tree Care and will be continuing to utilizing their services in the future."

"Arias trimmed up an Oak tree in my front yard. It had never been done, so it was a big job. Now, the tree looks like a piece of art. A job well done. They removed 3 tree stumps as well. Cleaned up after the job. They have the right equipment and are very professional."

"We had hired this company before and felt comfortable hiring them again. This was a BIG job. Our property had been burned over when the Butte Fire came through in 2015. We look at many dead, burn scared trees. We called Joel and got a bid that we could live with. So today he brought the crew out and did the work. We watched as these pro"s worked together to take down the trees and fed the chipper. The big stuff was cut into rounds that we will split for fire wood. We couldn't be more pleased. Thanks Joel!"

"They trimmed trees and cleaned up.  One tree had not been trimmed in more than 20 years.  John was very knowledgeable and even told me what trees could not be trimmed yet due to the season.  With other quotes that I received (not Angie's List people), I didn't feel that they had any knowledge about the trees.  They trimmed up the trees and let me know how often in the future I should be trimming the trees.  I will definitely have them back to trim my other trees when the season is right.  During the evaluation of our trees we discussed the stump removal and John actually kicked one of the stumps (an apple tree) a little and it came out of the ground.  He said that it was unnecessary to pay for that one.  In a previous quote from someone, they told us it would be $65 to remove it.  I felt they were very honest in what they could do.  One of the workers even dug out around our orange tree and watered it as he said the dirt was too high.

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You should prune ornamental trees once every other year after the fruit has matured and begun to drop. You should also prune out dead branches whenever you see them. Pruning too often can stimulate more growth, especially in faster growing varieties like Bradford pears.

There are many signs that a tree is diseased or dying, and if you suspect that’s the case, you should call an arborist immediately. You might notice rot or fungus on the trunk or that the tree is beginning to lean to one side. Brittle branches or signs of root damage are other indicators that a tree is in trouble. If the tree is dying, it might be time to cut the tree down so it doesn’t fall.

Unfortunately, if you cut the top off a palm tree, it will die. Instead of budding or branching out, the top begins to slowly rot. That's why having a professional tree trimming at least twice a year is a good idea. If you don’t have experience with trimming your palm tree, you might accidentally cut the top off, leaving a dead and rotting tree in your wake.

Sometimes, knowing when you need tree-trimming services is straightforward, and other times, you have to do some investigating. Some tell-tale signs that you should have your tree trimmed include:

  • A poorly-formed tree with unruly branches, which makes the tree appear odd-shaped.

  • A tree with tall or large branches that interfere with power lines or your home’s exterior.

  • A tree that provides too much shade in the yard due to branch overgrowth.

Trees aren't big fans of moving, and they do go into shock during a transplant. Although most carefully thought-out tree transplants see the tree recover from the shock just fine, there is always a risk of having an unsuccessful move. Proper preparation, timing, and diligent aftercare are crucial to minimize the risks when transplanting a tree.
