"They were quick to respond to my inquiry and came by the following day. Sam went through everything completely and fully understood and provided helpful guidance and ideas for getting us exactly what we were looking for in our project. They were able to come and start the project just 10 days later. His team came in and did all of the prep in a day and poured the concrete the following morning. The results are great and his people were all very pleasant and helpful, answering any questions that I had and very thorough in everything. I highly recommend their work, they showed up quickly, which is unheard of these days and they were thorough with all aspects of the project. Their price was great and so is the final result. If you need any concrete work done around your house be sure to give them a call!"

"I hired Fred to build two pillar to hold up a gate at the entrance of our family ranch in Springville, California. Fred was responsive, intelligent, did everything he said he would do when he would do it, and the work turned out beautifully. Our whole family was pleased with his work. I highly recommend Fred Klauser for your stone mason needs."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

No, using a power sander on brick is not recommended because the force of the sander can destroy brick's fragile outer layer. Even using sandpaper on brick is discouraged because of the damage its abrasiveness can cause.

Stone houses used to be much more practical, but with the advent of stronger and cheaper materials like concrete, they aren’t seen as much anymore. There are some parts of the world where it makes sense to build with stone, and they are usually next to a stone quarry. Stone is, however, very weather-resistant, which is why many homes near the sea and on mountains are still built with local stone.

Common causes include weather exposure, moisture, and settling. Regular maintenance prevents significant damage.

No, it’s not recommended to attach shutters to brick without drilling. Brick is dense and built to last, so adhesives and shortcut methods don’t usually cut it. Even heavy-duty glue struggles to hold up over time—especially against wind, moisture, and temperature changes. Most no-drill options are made for materials like vinyl or wood, not solid masonry. Skipping the drill might seem easier, but it puts your shutters—and anything below them—at risk. For a secure, lasting install, drilling is the way to go. It takes more effort up front, but the result is safer and more reliable.

Yes, an outdoor fireplace should use fire bricks. Fire bricks are specially designed to withstand high levels of heat and thus won’t crack as easily as regular bricks when exposed to the intense heat inside a fireplace.
