"I hired Fred to build two pillar to hold up a gate at the entrance of our family ranch in Springville, California. Fred was responsive, intelligent, did everything he said he would do when he would do it, and the work turned out beautifully. Our whole family was pleased with his work. I highly recommend Fred Klauser for your stone mason needs."

The high quality and the installation of all the parts of the new kitchen were done as he promised to us and were finished exactly on time. "I don't write reviews often, but in this case I must. We were served by Diego and Nathan who were extraordinary. My wife and I are architects and have repaired a few homes and did much of the work ourselves. but we were not going to tackle lifting the foundation nor leveling the sloping floors. the planning was tricky for us all due to COVID, but once we got going, we were completely satisfied with the work, the service, and the good humor of the Foundation Solutions team. Diego and Nathan were communicative, clean, hard working and had a fine attention to detail. And we had a lot of fun together. there are other foundation repair companies that are more 'slick' , but Foundation Solutions is the real thing. they know their work and do it well."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Rock salt and ice melts contain sodium chloride, aka salt, and are corrosive to metal and concrete. If used frequently over time, it can cause corrosion, discoloration, chipping, and cracking to patios, walkways, and driveways. You can try a rock salt alternative or hire a professional snow removal company instead.

If your old bricks are in decent condition and you have the space to store them where they’ll be protected from the elements, keeping old bricks is often worthwhile. You’d spend anywhere from $70 to a few hundred dollars to have them removed from your property, in which case you won’t be able to use them for future projects. Holding on to old bricks in good condition means you can use them later for other DIY projects, potentially saving yourself some money on disposal and new materials down the road.

Yes, you can do German schmear on stone. You can account for the more textured and rough surface of stone by using a large paintbrush instead of a putty knife. A brush allows you to drag mortar across the stone to get it into all the cracks and crevices. However, a brush will cover more of the surface, so you may need a wet sponge to scrub excess mortar and expose more of your stone.

Yes, it is essential to prime or seal a brick fireplace before painting. Brick is a porous and highly absorbent material, so without a primer, paint can seep into the surface, resulting in uneven coverage and allowing the natural brick color to show through. To avoid this, apply one or two coats of a masonry primer. The primer will seal the brick and provide a smooth, uniform layer for the paint to adhere to. Ensure the primer is completely dry before applying the topcoat of paint.

They provide excellent heat retention and durability and add a classic aesthetic to a home.
