"We contracted King of the Painters to paint the exterior of our home in Clairemont after reading customer reviews about their services. We met with the companies owners who were very helpful in helping us select a new house paint color scheme. The workers were on time and cleaned up the work site each afternoon. We had a few issues with the job and called them to report the issues and they were very quick to come out to correct the discrepancies. We would recommend using them to anyone."

"PBH did several house projects for me, including installing gutters and fancy fascia under my roof eaves. The work was perfect and all the workmen were polite, neat and clearly dedicated to making a perfect finished product. When they left, they cleaned up my entire yard. I would definitely rehire this company!"

"I can't recommend Henry's Professional Painting highly enough! If 10 stars were possible, they would get 10 from me. My old home hadn't been painted in decades. It needed lots of stucco repair and prep work. Tommy and his crew did a fantastic job! My house looks beautiful! I am just thrilled with their work. They finished a day earlier than expected. Henry, Tommy and Sara patiently answered all of my questions and were super nice folks all the way through. I will definitely hire them again."

"Well, what does one say when a diamond is found. As far as painting professional, Joe Asaro is that diamond. Several years ago, Joe painted by our stucco and wood trim on the entire home. The paint has held up incredibly on the stucco walls and wood fascia and I have not even considered touch up painting if it was not for the replacement tile roof installed a short time ago. With the tile installation, the new trim rake tiles where installed exposing more wood than before and therefore, Joe's services were necessary again. As always, Joe met me at my home, walked the site with me and promptly sent to my email his proposal and as prior, the price was very reasonable, especially for the workmanship that Joe provides. Joe is hard working and honest and the quality of work provided is proven by the lasting of time. Thanks again Joe for your professionalism and thoroughness and for consistently offering the a great product and service. Nick"

"We are very happy with our experience with Ron Rice Painting and Consulting. Our exterior stairs needed to be painted. Ron took the time to listen to what we wanted. He considered if what we wanted would work with the style and color of our home and used his years of professional experience to steer us toward a color. He painted three samples of the color family which we mulled on for a week or so before we selected the one that ended up on our exterior stairs. While we were considering paint, Ron advised us to use stain instead of paint to avoid wood rot in the future. The painter arrived on time and did a terrific job. He painted the railing leading up to the stairs for a cohesive look. The painter also took care of a few miscellaneous posts that needed to be painted. Ron suggested a fantastic color for our security screen that complimented the exterior stairs as well as the overall look of our home. In fact, we liked it so much that we painted three other doors the same color. We are very pleased with our overall experience. From color selection to putting up the finished product, Ron Rice Painting and Consulting did an amazing job."

"I have relied on Lifetime Custom Painting for over three years.  Whenever I call, they are extremely friendly and come to my home within a few days to prepare their bid.  They have painted both the inside and outside of my home and done some repair to various areas, including drywall.  The employees have been extremely friendly, polite and helpful even when I change my mind.  That is one of the things I like about this company.  The job is done very well, and cleanup is good, which means a lot to me.

Painting questions, answered by experts

The easiest way to stain a fence depends on your experience and comfort level with the project. Applying stain with an airless sprayer or pump sprayer might get the stain job done faster, but it can be tricky. Paint rollers and stain brushes are slower but simpler for a DIY project.

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.

Overall costs depend on the fence height and length, prep work required, and labor if hiring professionals, ranging between $1 and $4 per square foot.

Whitewashing isn’t permanent, but it can last for a long, long time. When you apply it correctly or have a seasoned pro whitewash your brick, whitewashing can last for 20 to 30 years or longer. Whitewash is very durable and typically requires little maintenance, making it a great project for most DIYers.

Stains penetrate wood best when it's cool and dry, so you want to avoid moisture. If the wood is wet upon application, or if it rains before the stain dries, the water will soak into the wood and displace the staining solution. This leads to a flaky and blotchy look, which is the opposite of a sumptuous even coat. Once the stain has fully cured, after about 3 days, rain shouldn’t cause you any problems.
