"Luis Mercado was very meticulous and professional. He was very neat and tidy and cleaned up very thoroughly when the repair was completed. The repair took the whole day. the result is that where there was a pronounced crack on my granite countertop in front of the sink, it is now fixed and the crack does not show at all! I know that it is there I can see the repair but it is well repaired and polished so imperceptible by someone who doesn't know about the problem. Luis also cleaned and polished the opposite counter. The cost was reasonable and offered a very viable option to changing both counters which would have cost a lot more money. It was excellent value for money I highly recommend OC Marble for any type of granite or marble repair! Annie M"

Stone Countertops questions, answered by experts

There are three main downsides to quartzite: the cost, the porosity, and the weight. As a natural stone, there’s a level of scarcity that can drive up the price of certain types of quartzite. Even more common varieties are less affordable than synthetic materials like laminate and other natural stones like granite.

You’ll also have to reseal your quartzite countertop annually to combat the natural porosity and reinforce your cabinets to account for the added weight.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface materials can be cut with standard woodworking tools, such as a circular saw or a jigsaw. However, it is crucial to use the correct type of blade to avoid damaging the material.

For a circular saw, a tungsten carbide-tipped blade is required; a triple chip grind blade is highly recommended. For a jigsaw, you should use a fine-tooth down-cutting blade. Do not use blades designed for cutting wood, as they can cause microfractures that weaken the edges of the countertop. A diamond blade is also unnecessary, as those are designed for harder materials like natural stone, which Corian is not.

After cutting, the edge will be rough. It is essential to sand and smooth the cut edge to prevent microfractures, which can eventually compromise the integrity of the countertop.

Some of the cheapest ways to change granite countertops without replacing them include painting, honing, or changing the finish, covering them with tile or laminate, and using countertop contact paper. Dollar for dollar, applying countertop film is the cheapest, easiest, and most reversible way to update the look of your countertops. No matter what you choose, remember that permanently marring the original countertops can cost you money when you’re trying to sell your home, so make smart choices and preserve the integrity of the granite.

Marble countertops can last from 20 to 100 years, making them an excellent choice for anyone looking for durability. The life span depends on several factors, including how well you take care of your marble countertops. Marble is a porous material, so it can require more upkeep than other countertop options.

Yes, a granite countertop can be cut in place. However, learning how to cut a granite countertop in place is a lot trickier than cutting granite in an open, well-ventilated space. You’ll also need to protect everything in the surrounding area (like your kitchen cabinets and appliances), but even that might not be enough to prevent dust from getting stuck in tight spots. If you absolutely must cut a granite countertop in place, consider hiring a pro to get the job done in the cleanest and safest way possible.
