"We have a historic home and there was additional care required to replace siding beneath the roofing material at the eaves. The team at Jordan roof completed the entire job in only 4 days, they fixed up our dormer which had shingles that had deteriorated, and repainted some of the shingles. Our home looks better than ever! Great responsiveness, fair pricing, and high quality work."

"I hired Specialist Roofing and Repair to install a new roof. I was a little worried because my roof has a very steep pitch. I could imagine how the guys would work on that roof, but in a few days they had the old roof off and a brand new one installed. I was very impressed with the work that they did. I recommend them to anyone that needs any roof work done. Thanks to all the guys at Specialist Roofing and Repair!"

"We had several bids and there were definitely some diff in approach for our roof replacement. We sent several emails to Eric for his opinion and he was always happy to respond. He was not the lowest bid and not the highest, but he was the most responsive. He provided recent referrals and all of them were more than happy with him, his crew and their work- We could not agree more. So glad we went with 3rd Gen. The crew was AWESOME! Clean, polite, and experts in their field. That was proven when the inspector told us ours was just about the best roof he had seen in his 32 years inspecting!"

"Dr Roofs was excellent in responding to my request for quotes and working with me. I needed a roof replacement and they gave me the best price compared to the other 3 companies I got estimates from. The roof was completed on time as promised. No problems with inspections-it passed easily. Dr Roofs is very trustworthy company. They did everything they committed to do. I'm very pleased with their work."

"Brad from Lifetime Roofing was great to work with . They came onetime and removed and installed a flat roof and a shingle roof. They had to come back out to fix a couple of things with the flat roof and flashing. Throughout the process Brad and Vito managed the project well and communicated regularly. I would recommend them."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.

You shouldn’t put a new roof underlayment over an old one for a few reasons. Old felt must be removed in order to assess the condition of your roof decking, such as rotting wood or other structural issues. Also, if your roofer doesn't install a fresh layer of felt as is required by shingle manufacturers, your warranty may be voided. Finally, old underlayment removal is often included in the cost of roof repair or replacement, so there's no real benefit to leaving it on before installing a new layer.

Yes, shingles should overhang the drip edge, typically between 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch. An overhang shorter than 1/2-inch can allow wind-driven rain to get under the shingles and damage the roof deck or fascia. Conversely, an overhang longer than 3/4-inch increases the risk of shingles getting caught by strong winds, which can lead to roof uplift. Always check your local building code for exact overhang requirements in your area.

There are several signs that indicate you’ll need new underlayment. Clear signs include missing or damaged roofing and exposing the underlayment to the elements. Additionally, if you notice water damage in your home by the roof after a storm, it could indicate that your underlayment may need to be replaced. If your gutters aren’t draining properly, it could also lead to rotting or water damage to the underlayment.

Yes, a roof blister can cause a leak if it gets to the point where it pops. Prior to popping, a roof blister is just an aesthetic issue, but once it pops, you’re left with a small hole in the shingle. Water from rain and snow can easily get inside this hole and interact with your underlayment, roof decking, and the building material below.
