"This was a small job that involved hauling some stuff away, trimming and clearing of plants, webs and debris. Jerry was very professional. He responded to my inquiry right away and even finished the job the same day. He was very respectful and polite and did an amazing job! Reasonably priced and goes above and beyond what you need. Will definitely recommend to others and hire him again."

"I had a quick job - just tightening my kitchen faucet that had come loose. He came by - on a Sunday of a holiday weekend - did a great job and was done in less than 20 minutes. I was so glad to find someone to get it done and not charge me an arm and a leg. Dan is great and I highly recommend him."

"In a perfect world the other guys might work, but in reality you need professionals with building expertise, problem solving skills, creativity, and the strength to do the impossible. My washer and drier didn’t fit, my couch never did get in through the front door, and my bunk beds had a ton of hardware and parts with no instructions- Heroic Movers figured it all out, which included removing a door, light, and wall trim. Save yourself stress and headache and hire them."

Hauling questions, answered by experts

Who is responsible for construction debris removal depends on the language in the construction contract. Usually, the contractor is responsible for removal rather than the homeowner. However, removal and disposal tend to come with additional fees that should be listed as line items in the initial estimate. This way, the homeowner can negotiate and decide whether or not to DIY.

If you're already planning to hire an electrician and you know that you'll get billed the minimum call-out charge, you might as well make the most of it by having the contractor do another small job like replacing a light switch or electrical outlet. Even if you're paying for a new coaxial outlet, which costs several hours in labor, you may be able to save a little or maximize value by getting them to do other related jobs. For example, if you're having a coaxial cable moved, it's worth checking if you also need another electrical outlet in the new location or considering where else you would benefit from a new outlet . The cost to install an electrical outlet is around $200.

The average cost of junk removal is around $250, but prices for this work range from $60 for small projects to $600 or more for large projects. Some companies charge per hour of work, but most will inspect your home and then give you a flat fee for the entire project. Garbage removal labor varies from project to project, so the best way to get an accurate estimate for your service is to contact a reputable garbage removal company in your area and hire them to inspect the junk that you plan to remove.

When deciding between renting a dumpster and hiring a junk removal service, the key factors are the type of project, the items you're discarding, and your timeline.

  • Rent a dumpster for longer projects like remodeling or construction. It offers flexibility, allowing you to dispose of debris like broken tile, drywall, fixtures, and yard waste over several days. You will be responsible for loading the dumpster yourself.

  • Hire a junk removal service for quick, hands-free disposal. This is ideal if you want to get rid of a pile of junk quickly, or if you have heavy or bulky items like furniture and boxes that you don't want to lift yourself. The professionals handle all the labor, often clearing everything out within a few hours.

When it comes to disposing of mattresses, metal, and untreated wood items, these are typically recyclable. In comparison, things like treated wood, chipboard or particleboard, and some types of sofa foam padding aren’t. Older items of furniture also often contain chemicals that are a health hazard. However, it might be possible to break the furniture down and recycle some, if not all, of the pieces. Contact your government trash management division or a local, authorized recycling center for more advice.
