"Both Tom and his wife were very helpful in answering all of my questions as I was planning this project. He went the extra mile in fitting the new countertop to my old cabinets."

"During the project scope and estimate phase, John was very responsive to our questions and provided us with options. We agreed to the scope and the date quickly. Day 1 of the job, the crew arrived promptly. They completed day 1 ahead of the quoted time. Day 2 went the same. John was very frank about the amount of noise and other disruptions we would experience, which we appreciated. We are extremely satisfied with the workmanship. We have already referred someone else to Franklin Interiors. And we are considering them for another project. We highly recommend Franklin Interios for any tub, showers, sinks or countertop work you may need. Franklin Interiors has many options to choose from."

"Back to Perfection is a perfect name for this company. We didn't realize that Corian could be refinished. We were referred to Back to Perfection and treated to a professional experience process that was well done from start to finish. Our countered has Corian sinks as part of the countertop and they were pitted and wanted them repaired as well as refinishing the entire countertop. We were delighted with the result. The refinished countertops look like new and "Back to Perfection". Recommend Back to Reservation without reservation."

"They did a good job. We purchased the Angie's Deal for new granite countertops for $1499. Of course we ended up choosing a higher priced granite, needing more granite square footage than the deal covered, and upgrading the sink for additional cost. They also needed to move up the electrical outlets to accommodate for the new 6 inch granite backsplash. Bryan and his team did the entire job in 2 days and were great. One thing to mention is that they do not hook back up the sink after the job. They were very clear about that in their estimate. We called a separate plumber for that the next day. Overall, very happy with my counters. Now if someone else would just do the cooking in there!"

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Formica is a brand of laminate, so all Formica is laminate, but not all laminate is Formica. To identify it, look for a thin, plastic-like surface bonded to a wood or particleboard base. Formica often has branding on the underside. If you don’t see Formica, it could be Wilsonart, another familiar laminate brand. If the countertop is unique, you can visit the Formica site to find a match. Formica is known for creative collaborations that lead to unique design offerings.

There are many benefits of granite countertops, but it’s not unusual for them to have seams—especially if you’re working with small slabs joined together. Seams are common on larger islands where the installer needs to use more than one granite slab to cover the surface. Luckily, because seams are normal in granite countertops, pros know how to hide them properly, so you’d never know they were there.

While porcelain countertops are durable and don’t chip easily once installed, they aren’t chip-proof. If they’re subject to blunt force, chips, cracks, or other damage can occur. Unless you’re very confident in your installation abilities, hiring a local countertop installation company will reduce the risk of damage.

Butcher block countertops typically last around 20 years, and sometimes longer, with proper maintenance. This lifespan is comparable to granite and longer than laminate. Key maintenance tasks include regular cleaning after every use and resealing, ideally once a month. You can also sand and resurface the countertops to remove imperfections like deep scratches, stains, dings, and scorch marks. The longevity is also affected by the thickness of the wood strips used in its construction; thicker strips are generally more durable.

No, you don't have to apply polyurethane to butcher block countertops. Polyurethane sealant is a long-lasting finish for a butcher block counter, but its application also requires thoroughly sanding the surface multiple times. Other materials, such as mineral oil, require less work but must be applied more frequently.
