"On a Sunday, Beth showed up to my home at the appointed time for our initial walk-through. She was super friendly and professional. We went through every area of my house that I wanted cleaned while she took notes on her notebook. At the end of the walk-through, she explained that she would review her notes and call me later to give me a quote for first-time service as well as an ongoing maintenance quote. She called me later that night, quoted me a price which I considered fair and we scheduled the cleaning for the upcoming Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, the Tuesday we originally agreed upon, was my sister's birthday and I had to reschedule and move it up to Wednesday. Beth was very gracious and accommodating and gladly re-scheduled for Wednesday morning. My mother and my nephew were home on Wednesday morning when Beth showed up with two of her crew - my nephew let them in. In about three hours, they completed their tasks. While I was at work, my mother called me to praise Beth's team and to let me know that she was delighted with the results. When I came home from work I was very impressed with the fabulous job Beth's team accomplished. Every single thing on my list had been done. I am highly impressed with their service and I would definitely recommend them to anyone who values punctuality, professionalism, friendliness and attention to detail. I am grateful for the care they took in cleaning my house and I will be contracting them again in the very near future."

House Cleaning questions, answered by experts

While a biohazard cleanup sounds like a scary process, knowing what to expect can help ease your concerns and set you up for success. It’s good to note that more than one professional might be needed depending on your situation, but that will be determined during the assessment. What you can expect during a home biohazard cleanup is the following:

  • Assessment: The first step in this process is for a biohazard cleanup professional to assess the damage. They create a report that includes the biohazard safety level, the needed damage cleanup, and the time it should take to complete the project.

  • Setup: The cleanup professional prepares the site to prevent cross-contamination and reduce toxicity risk. This process can include tarping and creating decontamination zones.

  • Removal of surface contamination: Any contaminated materials are removed from the area, starting with large materials followed by small ones. The professional can assess any floor-related damage once everything is removed from the site.

  • Salvaging items: The biohazard cleanup professionals assess which items can be saved and which are contaminated beyond the point of saving. Those deemed unsafe will be disposed of immediately.

  • Waste disposal: The next step is carefully disposing of the hazardous waste. Your professional will place the contaminated items in specific containers to keep the contamination from spreading.

  • Disinfection: The house will be disinfected and odor-neutralized. Even more minor details, like light switches and bulbs, will be disinfected so that they do not recontaminate the area in the future.

  • Restoration: Once the decontamination is complete, the last step is to restore the home. This includes repairing the damage to flooring, walls, or even the home's foundation.

Deep cleaning after a renovation is important to remove all the dust from construction. This will improve air quality, prevent health issues and increase the home’s comfort level. Also, debris and dust can stain new paint or scratch surfaces, ruining the renovation right from the get-go.

Not cleaning your house on a regular basis can lead to elevated allergen levels, pest problems, mold growth, damaged belongings, and parts of your home falling into disrepair. Consistent cleaning prevents problems that can lead to illness and ensures you’re aware of the condition of everything in your home so you can maintain and repair things as needed.

One of the best ways to prepare for a home biohazard cleanup is not to touch anything. Do not remove belongings, even if they are of value or importance, from the area as they are likely contaminated. It’s essential not to use any cleaning products of your own, as the cleaning company will be using chemicals that could interact with your products.

One thing you can do to prepare is take pictures of your space and belongings that need to be cleaned, especially if you plan on filing a claim with your insurance company. In addition, take time to make a list of items that are valuable, sentimental, or otherwise important. The cleanup company must evaluate these belongings to make sure they are safe.

It's not a great idea to clean gas stove grates in the dishwasher. Most iron grates, even with a protective coating, can corrode when exposed to the heavy washing process. Instead, soak your stove grates in gentle soapy water for up to 30 minutes, and remove any grease and grime by hand to be safe.
