"I had hoped to find a reasonable repipe company to do a total repipe of my home. Ace Plumbing was by far less expensive than any others I had contacted, for this reason I had my reservations about the quality of the work they would do. LET ME TELL YOU their work was fast, superb, first rate and 5 STAR from the first contact to the last detail. Every employee was polite and obliging, they did everything I ask of them, they were very careful to cover all of the area where they would be working or walking. OVERALL 5 STARS are not enough to describe the total contact. I hope I never need a plumber again but if I do it will be ACE PLUMBING, a truly 5 Star company."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Water heater pipes can freeze in one night if outdoor temperatures are cold enough. The lower the temperature, the quicker plumbing tends to freeze. If your pipes are well-insulated and you take proper preventative measures during the winter, your pipes should not freeze as rapidly as unprotected pipes might.

You cannot leave the sewer cleanout cap off. Leaving it off can be dangerous and costly for you. If you need help getting the right sewer cleanout cap or adding one to your system, reach out to a local pro for advice and professional help to ensure the cap is installed correctly.

Different plumbing systems may sound different when a pipe is about to burst, so sounds alone are not a definitive indication of a burst pipe. However, dripping sounds indicate a leaking pipe, and there’s a thin line between a small leak and a bursting overflow. Metallic sounds like clanging and rattling are common when a pipe bursts, though they can also indicate a normally functioning hot water system.

Putting caulk around a toilet’s base where it touches the flooring can help hold the toilet in place. A more effective way is using caulk with plastic shim wedges. Place the shims underneath the base to steady and stabilize the toilet. Add some caulk to help keep the shims in place and provide a stronger and more lasting stabilization effect.

Technically, you can put an elongated toilet seat on a round toilet, but it’s not a good idea. Elongated toilet seats are a few inches longer than round toilets, so they will hang over the front edge of your toilet, which isn’t appealing. Additionally, an unsupported toilet seat or portion of a toilet seat is more likely to crack and shift, which could result in injury to whoever uses the toilet. Always match your toilet seat style to your toilet, or replace the toilet entirely if you’re looking to switch styles.
