Bohn Heating and Sheet Metal was started in 1963 in downtown Pacific Grove. As members of the Sheet Metal Workers International Union, all of our technicians must complete a 5-year apprenticeship program. We are much more than just a heating company – our union trained technicians are experts in the service of all makes and models of furnaces, heating systems, gas fireplaces and inserts. Fabrication of custom metal work such as chimney caps, gutters and counter tops are another area of expertise. Give us an idea, possibly a picture and measurements and we can fabricate it in metals such as galvanized, stainless or copper.

Classic Copper Works uses time honored German copper smith techniques handed down from father to son and passed on to our highly skilled artisans. We specialize in the fabrication of custom copper & bronze products and other metal specialties. WE DO NOT OFFER REPAIR SERVICES OF ANY KIND. Additional phone number - (888) 908-5339.

"Ordered and paid for custom awning that was to take 5 weeks. Its now been 16 weeks and still waiting. Owner is at best noncommunicable and at worst, rude. I'm now wondering if this is a scam and not a real business."

Chimney Caps questions, answered by experts

A new roof may improve insulation and ventilation problems that can lead to ice dams, but it’s not a solution for preventing them. All roofs are susceptible to the conditions that cause ice dams, so it’s best to invest your money into insulation and gutter management solutions rather than a new roof if you don’t need a replacement yet.

Installing a green roof costs between $10 and $30 per square foot. Green roofs cost slightly more than standard roofs, due to the extra materials and installation know-how required. The type of green roof you choose also impacts the cost, with intensive roofing systems costing considerably more than extensive roofs.

The principal, common, and auxiliary rafters are the most frequently used types of rafters. Principal rafters are large and typically appear toward the edges of the roof. Common rafters are smaller than principal rafters. Some people may use a mix of common and principal rafters. The auxiliary rafter is not common, but it provides extra reinforcement for a principal rafter on a large building.

It’s possible to install solar panels on a tar and gravel roof, but it does increase the risk of roof leaks more than installing solar on a sloped roof would. Flat roofs pool water in heavy rain and hold onto snow longer than sloped roofs do, so all aspects of the roof will be exposed to moisture and water more readily. Adding roof penetrations to install the solar racking system will increase that risk further.

A chimney that leaks in heavy rain is not functioning properly. This may be due to damage accrued over time from exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions, which can cause cracks to form in the chimney crown and ultimately allow moisture to seep in from above. It could also be due to a faulty or missing chimney cap.
