"Erinn was my initial contact and he gave a very through and fair estimate. We had structural work done to support floor joists and large beams under the garage that needed replacing. Ernesto and his team, Julio, Salvatore and Gilder worked tirelessly to complete the work and were respectful, punctual, informative and good humoured throughout the entire process. I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them to others. A really great company!!"

"I hired Beginnings Engineering for a structural project on my 45-year-old home and worked with Jonathon Sipe and Nada. I spoke with several other firms in Orange County first. Most of the alternative proposals leaned toward complicated, expensive “perfect” solutions that might make sense on a new build, but didn’t feel grounded in the reality of an older home. Jonathon took a different approach: he listened to what I was trying to accomplish, worked through the constraints with me, and came back with a solution that made sense in the real world—while still being safe and code-compliant. On top of that, the experience was just… easy. Communication was straightforward, follow-through was solid, and they were genuinely friendly people to deal with. They weren’t the lowest engineering quote, but they were the lowest-cost path overall because their design avoided the unnecessary construction scope other firms recommended."

"I am a homeowner who did my own home remodeling architectural design. Even though I had architect degree, but I had never done any project in Los Angeles. As everybody knows, Building and Safety has tons of regulations to follow, which made the permitting process especially difficult. I was so lucky to work with David, my structural engineer, who is very sharp, knowledgeable and hardworking. Not only did he deliver his structural design on time but also he guided me through with all details of my architectural plan. He is very responsive and generous about sharing his knowledge. It was such a surprise when David got me the permit over the counter from the city office with only one attempt, which expedited my remodeling project timeline for at least two months. Definitely recommended!!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Long Beach, structural engineering maintenance should include routine seismic retrofitting checks, monitoring for foundation settlement, and inspecting steel for corrosion from salt air. After any earthquake, schedule a structural evaluation to catch hidden damage early. It’s also smart to look for moisture intrusion in concrete and have soft-story buildings reviewed regularly, as local conditions can accelerate wear and compromise safety.

Helpful?

Be cautious of quotes in Long Beach that overlook seismic or soil factors, lack detail about retrofit needs, or provide vague project scopes. Unusually low estimates, requests for large upfront payments, or missing proof of insurance are warning signs. A reputable professional will outline clear timelines, address local permit and inspection requirements, and provide transparent communication before starting any work.

Helpful?

For Long Beach projects, choose materials designed for seismic resilience and coastal durability. Engineered lumber, high-strength concrete, and corrosion-resistant hardware are essential to withstand earthquakes and salt air. Using epoxy-coated rebar and marine-grade concrete additives helps protect structures exposed to the marine environment, while stainless steel fasteners offer extra defense against rust and long-term deterioration.

Helpful?

When hiring in Long Beach, prioritize professionals with proven experience in seismic design and coastal construction. Look for familiarity with local soil types and retrofit requirements. Ask about recent projects in the area and verify insurance coverage. Strong communication skills and a history of successful work on similar homes in coastal CA are also important for a smooth, reliable project.

Helpful?

Combining structural engineering with other upgrades in Long Beach can minimize disruptions and streamline your project. Coordinating seismic retrofitting with foundation repairs or major remodels allows you to consolidate permit applications and inspections. This approach often leads to better scheduling, fewer construction delays, and improved overall project efficiency, making it easier to manage home improvements in a busy coastal city.
