"It went better than I expected! My tenant was locked out and called me the landlord to see if I had a spare key somewhere, unfortunately I didn’t. So, I contacted Locksmith on behalf of tenant and technician was so helpful! Tech’ stayed on the call with me, since I’m calling from out of State. And answered all of my Qts. Truly recommend!"

"It is so important to find an honest, trustworthy locksmith and Alan is definitely the best in the business. He is a total professional and I trust him to re-key my whole house. I have used him on numerous occasions - basically whenever anything goes wrong with my locks- and have recommended him to colleagues and friends. All have had equally positive experiences with both quality of work and price. I would not believe that other reviewer."

"I purchased a deal for $150.00 worth of locksmith service for $79.99.  JC from SUPER Lock & Key, Inc was exteremely responsive and called me within an hour of ordering the deal to schedule an appointment.  JC was flexible and worked around my schedule.  He showed up on Saturday morning, on time and ready to work.  He inspected our current locks, listened to our concerns and went to work right away.  He disassembled the first lock, explained what he was doing and looking for and showed me where the problem areas normally occur.  One of our locks was harder to turn than than the others but he explained why as he put the lock back together.  Our GC installed this lock and JC explained what the GC needed to do to fix it.  JC worked fast and was done in less than an hour.  He stood by as we inspected all 4 of our locks to make sure the keys worked.  He managed to reuse 2 of our existing Emtek keys and gave us 2 extra keys.  My GC fixed the lock based on what JC recommended and now it works perfectly.  5 stars!

"Words cannot express how amazing James is. We have this old lock on our front door that needed to be removed. James offered free guidance to aid my husband and I in removing our old lock. We failed miserably and James came out day of. Throughout the whole experience, he was professional, he was informative, he even took less money from us than quoted. I dreaded getting a locksmith just because I didn’t want to go through the hassle of dealing with a person and getting ripped off. But let me tell you this guy is amazing and I would hire him again in a heartbeat and have already given family members recommendations. 10/10"

"After my sister gave me a call that her purse had been stolen with all her information and house keys inside I couldn't sleep knowing someone had access to our home, so i went on line at 1 a.m. and e-mailed a couple of locksmiths to get quotes. Robert was the only one who e-mailed me back and called me first thing in the morning to answer my questions. I was able to call him back at 7 a.m. by 8:15 a.m. he was at my door ready to work. Robert was fast, professional and friendly. The price was as quoted. If I need a lock smith again, i know who to call now."

"I called early Sunday afternoon requesting service for later in the day because I wasn't home. The provider was understanding and readily agreed to work around my schedule. I was delayed in getting home and still the provider was patient and understanding.  Ami from Locksmith Speed quoted an arrival time of  forty minutes. He arrived in approximately twenty-five minutes. Once here he quickly got to work, and completed the work in record time. In addition, he gave me a discount because he said he loved Angie's List customers! He said he always has great experience with Angie's list customers. I would highly recommend Ami to everyone and anyone. I will pass his name on to members of my family should they need locksmith services. In addition to fixing my primary problem he made recommendations regarding my locks for future consideration.

When the temps drop, sometimes you need to thaw a lock to regain access. Options include warming the key with warm water, applying a de-icing spray, or using a hair dryer on low heat. Avoid using boiling water to prevent damage. To prevent future freezing, consider installing a cover or shield over the lock to keep water and ice out. Remember to be patient and gentle during thawing to avoid damaging the lock or key. If all else fails, consult a professional locksmith.

Expect to pay between $50 to $200 if you hire a locksmith to change your locks. That figure includes labor and the cost of basic hardware. The cost will naturally be higher if you plan to install more expensive locks, like smart locks, and if you need a lot of them.

Homeowners can save money by replacing locks themselves. A typical rekeying kit costs about $10 to $25. The only additional cost is purchasing new house keys, and those are no more than a few dollars per key. If you want to replace the locks on your own completely, the main cost is the price of the locks themselves. A standard knob-style lock starts around $25, while electronic locks and smart locks will run in the hundreds of dollars. The only additional tools you should need are a tape measure, screwdriver, and screws if they are not already provided.

Rekeying is typically cheaper than replacing locks. Professional rekeying costs between $40 and $160, sometimes with an additional fee of $15 to $40 per lock. A locksmith's hourly rate averages around $75. If you do it yourself, a rekeying kit can cost as little as $10. In contrast, replacing a lock costs between $130 and $500, with an average of around $315, depending on the hardware and lock type. Rekeying is a simpler process that changes the key for your existing lock without replacing the hardware. It is a good option if you have a quality lock that works well, you've recently moved, you've lost a key, or you need a quick security upgrade. The best choice depends on the condition of your current locks.

Door locks should be changed roughly every seven years. The average lifespan of a door lock is seven to 10 years, so it’s best to err on the side of caution and change them early, especially if they are showing signs of wear and tear. Examples of deterioration include visible rust and difficulty opening or closing the door. Some locks can work safely beyond 10 years, but it depends on how often they are used and whether they are exposed to damaging environmental conditions like precipitation or extreme temperatures.

The good news is that, yes, you can change locks yourself. Many people find it’s an easy DIY project that requires few tools and not much expense (depending on which lock you’re installing). If you have trouble with any part of an installation, you can always call a locksmith to help finish installing them.
