"Pedro did a wonderful job .He came out gave me a bid set me up and came out on time and went to work. He alerted me that one tree needed to be trimmed before the others and I’m glad he did. They took care of all 3 trees and left the area looking great. Pedro was very on top of everything and his crew did an awesome job."

"S & H Tree Service showed up promptly on time to cut down the Eucalyptus and they worked very efficiently, while paying attention to the safety of the neighbors that were around watching the trees come down.  They completed the job in less than the time they quoted and cleaned up the entire area afterword.  Great work on each of the projects that they have done for us and I recommend them highly to anyone.

"Fil was very knowledgeable about trees and experienced in all aspects of the job. They trimmed 5 medium Ash trees and removed/stump ground one. They also installed 30 ft of 24 inch root barrier to prevent damage to our house foundation. All this for a very reasonable price. Fil's crew were punctual, respectful of our home, and very efficient. Steve is an artful tree lacer and frequently checked in with us on the aesthetics and amount of thinning in progress for each tree. And the trench diggers and barrier installation team worked non-stop and carefully to avoid buried irrigation pipes and drains. Everything was cleaned up and left cleaner than when they arrived. We would definitely use Fil and his team again."

"I'm so grateful that I found Pope Tree Services. I had struggled finding help with trimming the overgrown trees along my driveway. Pope Tree Services showed up & did the job so well. I will now be able to notify the propane company that the trees are trimmed & ready for their next delivery without bumping their mirrors & scratching the truck. I hope that other delivery trucks like UPS will begin coming to deliver packages at my house again. I recommend this company to assist you with similar tree trimming challenges. Their prices are reasonable & their services are promptly scheduled."

"In this particular instance it was the City's responsibility to trim the tree, which they finally did (there was a liability hazard problem, which they had been choosing to ignore). I was going to have Aaron trim the tree (I was very impressed with Ed's professional manner and expertise, but when the City FINALLY saw the immediate hazard in person, they then volunteered this time to trim the tree (the last few years they were not doing it because of lack of funds). The last time it was trimmed I hired the trimmer myself (a well known company), but this time their quote was totally exorbitant, plus Ed pointed out that they had overtrimmed it two years ago, causing TOO MUCH RAPID REGROWTH! He seems to be very well versed about tree growth. I will certainly keep Aaron in mind for any future tree work, as well as tell others."

"Prompt response to inquiry. Estimate and work performed on-time. Very fair price. Trim of palm tree and trimming/lacing of pear trees professionally done. Very thorough cleanup. It can be hard to get reliable service for small jobs for small HOA - consider myself lucky to have found them."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

In most cases, leaving tree roots underground is not a problem if the stump has been removed or ground below the soil. However, some larger roots may decompose, leaving dents in your soil. Additionally, some aggressive trees, including willows, oaks, elms, maples, and poplars may grow back from roots. Large aggressive trees with established root systems are more likely to grow back.

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves.

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.

Sudden oak death and oak wilt are different diseases. Oak wilt first shows up in tree leaves while sudden oak death affects the branches and trunk. However, as symptoms in both can overlap, it’s best to consult a professional arborist tree expert for a proper diagnosis and development of a treatment plan.

Trees naturally want to grow upward, so one may straighten all by itself, though this only comes into play when a tree is leaning just a small amount. For trees growing into an awkward position or those leaning heavily in one direction, the above steps are necessary to ensure the tree gets back on the right path. This also holds true for trees planted in a spot with unstable soil.

Ideally, you should wait to prune until trees have gone dormant in late fall to early winter. The worst times to prune trees are early fall and late summer, as pruning them so close to dormancy makes it difficult for the tree recover before it goes dormant for the season.
