"Tracy and his crew were amazing at their speediness, prompt service, and amazing customer service as well as unbeatable pricing. When our house was egged a week later, Tracy came back and took care of the damage at no cost. He also replaced a roof tile at no cost. He took excellent care of us. Could not recommend a better painter."

"Rick Davis was very personable.  He was prompt returning any phone calls or addressing any color or paint concerns.  He provided our bid for the exterior painting in July before our siding was completed so we planned on scheduling after the siding was completed which was the end of August.  We requested a bid to stain our newly installed back fence the first day his crew came out for the exterior preparation and accepted his proposal.  His crew did a great job preparing the exterior for paint and protecting our new landscaping and concrete.  They completed the entire house in one day and returned the next for minor touch up and to stain the fence.  Rick was very thorough in communication throughout the whole process and our house looks awesome.

"My husband a I recently bought our first home in the summer of 2018. The first improvement on the list was to repaint. All the walls throughout the house and the master bedroom baseboards were painted a very unpleasant brown. Being someone who grew up around construction and worked for a remodeling company I have a good eye for quality work. Custom Applications Painting exceeded my expectations. Our initial consultation was wonderful, they understood my vision, preferences and helped narrow down my color choices. When it came down to getting the job done Custom Applications Painting were quick, efficient and respectful of our space. They even made our deadline before our housewarming party. I had several friends and family members complement the work they had done and some even took pictures. Our house is now a home thanks to Custom Applications Painting. I will be working with them again on our next project!"

"The entie enterprise went flawlessly.

Jerry responded to my initial call within two days and came out that afternoon to look at the job.  He was personable and professional. I knew he was not going to be able to give me a firm cost estimate becaue there was no way to determine how much of the underneath porftion of the larger deck would need replacement until the surface boards were off, but he seemed competent, and he already had some glowing reviews on Angie's list.  The combination convinced me and I decided to let him go ahead.

I can now say he was a great choice for the job!  He and the men who worked with him were efficient and effective.  There was major progress made each of the four days they were on the job and they were happy to confer with me at every step.  They answered all my questions, made sure they were doing what I wanted, and even respected my wishes to not start too early in the morning!  When they left each evening they paid attention to safefy.  They closed up the deck surfaces as much as possible and set up chairs and such to block off open areas. At the end of the job they cleared and hauled away all debris and swept the area clean.  If it were not for the two beautifully repaired decks you would never know they had been there.

The finished job looks teriffic and is absolutely solid.  They paid attention to details, finished edges and left me with two decks that not only look good butwhich will probably last for a decade.   I can heartily recommend them and I will call on them again for future work.

"Martis Concepts was recommended by a friend.  We had Martis Concepts paint our master bedroom suite first.  I wanted to test his work on a smaller project.  Our bedroom has 10 foot ceilings a 15 foot inset in the center.  There is a seatee area that has an entry with columns and built in book shelves that cover one wall.  The woodwork turned out beautiful.  The columns and the bookshelf are like they were done at a factory.  He also painted a contract color on the inset ceiling which turned out perfectly.  The paint job is so impressive.
Since I was so happy with the master bedroom I contracted Martis to do the rest of the 2013 project.  Downstairs was the living room, den, dining room, entry and spiral staircase.  Twenty foot ceilings with eight inch crown and six inch floor moldings.  Eight doors, two are paned.  Four columns support the stair landing.  The oak spiral staircase was also painted.  The living room fireplace has built in cabinets that open to a wet bar on one side and TV and Stereo cabinet on the other.  Bookshelves flank both sides of those cabinets.  There was an inset mirror above the fireplace.  Martis removed the mirror and retextured the walls adding a tube to thread electrical wiring to the TV which is now mounted over the fireplace.  Also above the fireplace are two large insets that were painted an accent color.  New fans were installed in every room.
Upstairs were three large bedrooms with walk-in closets, built in desks and bookshelves and each bedroom has a bathroom.  All three rooms were painted as well as all of the woodwork.  Bathroom has new granite installed.  Emanual is a perfectionist and without requesting painted the closets walls the color with all of the shelving white.  They turned out so impressive.  Finally, another staircase leading down to the kitchen was also painted including the railing which was originally oak.
I don't mean to go on and on but I feel a need to outline the complexity of the project.  The cost was very reasonable compared to the amount of work that was required.  Also, we used the highest grade paint and had custom colors created.  The work was excellent.  I am so happy we used Martis Concepts.  One thing that can't go unmentioned, we had a piece of crown molding at the top of the circular wall above the staircase.  The installation was not done properly and it was sagging.  Emanual fixed that and using plaster actually molded over where it was originally pieced together.  It looks like one piece of molding and I can't tell where it was repaired.   Words can't truely explain my pleasure with the job.  We will be remodeling our kitchen next summer and I will certainly ask Martis Conepts to do the work.  I wouldn't think of using anyone else.

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

Adding a second coat of stain to wood can even out the color to some extent, but it won't drastically alter the hue if the initial application is too light or too dark. It's more effective at enhancing the richness of the color rather than significantly changing it. Ensure the first coat is dry before applying the second.

If you don’t treat a cedar fence, it will turn from reddish brown to gray over time. You can keep the cedar from graying and retain its attractive, deep red color by sealing your cedar fence with a stain that keeps the wood’s oils in and serves as a barrier against the sun’s UV rays.

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths
