"We had a door issue which left our business vulnerable. Jay and his crew came out on a Saturday and put in 6 hours getting our shop buttoned up tight. They went out of our way to get it done, and they did it right."

"Morgan called in advance of appointment to inform us that he was on his way. He removed the sliding glass door and screen and replaced, lubed and adjusted the door hardware for proper closure. Door work fantastic (like new) again. Great service for the cost and would highly recommend him for any door, window and doggy door installation or repair."

"Showcase Window and Door installed 3 sliding glass doors and 23 windows in our 2 story home in Orange County, CA. Mark Britton advised us on window and installation types (retrofit and new build) and we went with a combination of both. His measurements were spot on and his crew was clean, efficient and professional every step of the way. Highly recommend Showcase Window & Door to get it done right!"

"This past June 2017, we had the very pleasurable and satisfying experience of having Kyle Beym Home Improvements perform work at both our home and our rental home as well. We contracted with Kyle to do such things as: redo the bathroom in our rental home, install new flooring in both houses for kitchen and bath, put in a new shower and tub as well as new vanities and mirrors, hang new security doors, install exhaust fans for both kitchen and baths, repair numerous closet doors, paint various rooms in both homes, hang a new exterior door, cut, measure, and install new floor molding, and so on. My wife and I are absolutely ecstatic with the results! The quality of the work, overall, is first rate and we are so pleased with how everything turned out. Though we spent quite a bit of money hiring Kyle, the total was north of $15,000, we feel that for the amount of work completed, along with the tremendous results, we certainly got a more than fair deal in terms of value and craftsmanship. Kyle gave us a very clear and concise estimate upon personally inspecting all that we were looking to have done. He was open to our questions and concerns and he promptly got back to us every time we wanted to ask something of him. During the course of the work, we added to the list of things we wanted done but Kyle did not miss a beat. He gave us individual prices for the additional work and he seamlessly integrated it into the ongoing project. Rigo and Mario were the two employees Kyle assigned to exclusively perform all the work at both homes. We cannot say enough about how marvelous they were. They were professional, gracious, flexible, skilled at their craft, and completed all contracted work with passion and enthusiasm. In the final analysis, we would hire Kyle’s company again in a heartbeat and without any reservations we would recommend him to anyone looking to improve the look, value, and quality of their home!"

Doors questions, answered by experts

To build a standard size, six-panel door yourself, you’ll need four 2-foot by 6-foot boards, one 2-foot by 8-foot or 2-foot by 10-foot board, and a sheet of 3/4-inch, paint-grade plywood. The 2-foot by 6-foot boards will serve as your stiles, top rail, and horizontal and vertical mullions, and the wider board will serve as the bottom rail, which is usually wider than the other horizontal pieces. The plywood will serve as the panels, but you’ll need around five 1-foot by 6-foot boards to make your own panels if you want to stain the door rather than paint it.

Smart door locks are safe to use and are usually considered safer than traditional locks with keys. While all electronic devices can be hacked, that doesn’t happen nearly as frequently in real life as people may think. You can also invest in multiple locks of different types for enhanced security so you don’t rely solely on one smart lock.

Barn doors do not always require a bottom track, especially if a high-quality top track is used to stabilize the door. However, a bottom track is often recommended to ensure the door operates smoothly, prevent it from scratching the floor, and keep it from pushing inward or outward, which could cause damage. A bottom track also keeps the door more secure and properly anchored. In some cases, an interior barn door can hang solely from a top track without a bottom guide. If you do install a bottom track, it should be placed six to eight inches from the floor and be at least twice as wide as the door.

The difference between a mortise latch and a tubular latch is how they're mounted. A mortise latch has a single integrated lock body. One long rectangular space is cut into the door to contain it. A single keyhole is used to unlock both the dead bolt and latch from the outside. A tubular latch is a standard setup with a dead bolt separate from the regular spring bolt latch.

To achieve the correct opening size for a 30-inch door, add 2 inches to the door width and 2 ½ inches to the door height. For example, if you have a 30-inch-wide door with an 80-inch height, then the rough opening would measure 32 inches wide by 82 1/2 inches high
