Customers say: Quick response

"I was under the gun, my home insurance was going to be cancelled if I didn't get the main electrical panel replaced. I thought to myself how the heck do I go about this, it turned out easy for me, because Sierra Smith Electric called, and Zeke handled everything. He understood my predicament and made time for my job and coordinated all aspects of it. He's work was professional and his price was very reasonable. Thanks again Zeke."

"Chris was great! He installed an outdoor fan for us which did not come with a remote, but he immediately had a solution to place the switch plate and had the water proof parts in his truck. He also troubleshooted some minor issues for us and gave us some great ideas for landscape lighting and timed outdoor lighting. I will be hiring him again soon!"

"I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Marc and his team. They took our dilapidated over-grown backyard and turned it into something bordering on a private park, garden and orchard. It looks amazing! Marc worked with us to trim down our initial plans and get us to a budget we felt comfortable with but was still able to deliver 99% of what we were looking for. And when the final bill came, we were less than 1% over budget, which is a win! In addition, Marc communicated at every step in the process so that we were always in the knowledge about what was going on. Marc s crew was great too! They had a smile on their faces every day and treated our property as if it was their own. They had a real pride in their work."

"For a living I buy real estate...I'm a lanlord and I deal with many different types of contractors. Some are professional and others you wish you never met. Bill and his crew are very professional and curtious. They protect everything so that nothing is damaged and they are very fast which is nice.....some contractors take all day to do what he did in about 2 hours. Bill went above and beyond the job...he convinced me to get rid of an old can light and hang a chandelier over a round japanese soaking tub. The second he recommended it I realized it was a great idea. He installed the chandelier box for me for free. His rates are very fair."

"He was extremely quick getting the project underway and he and his crew did an excellent job! I will be calling him back for other more extensive landscaping projects... I was VERY impressed with his attitude, flexibility and project completion. Gregg Novotny and the entire Foothills Landscape team did a great job landscaping our backyard! Gregg worked within our schedule and phased in the landscape plan according to our wishes and coordinated with our concrete contractor. He promptly returned our phone calls and emails, and he listened to us when we had changes and concerns. For example, when we made a mistake about the types of trees we wanted, Gregg listened to our concerns and went out of his way to make sure we got what we wanted. His team is very professional and Gregg is wonderful. We couldn't have asked for more from a landscape company! We definitely would work with him again."

"Influx Electric is a relatively new business, but the owner/electrician is outstanding and very knowledgeable. He fixed my ceiling fan for a very reasonable cost and was willing to perform the service while other electricians refused to even look at the fan to see if it could be repaired. I highly recommend Influx Electric. You will be very glad you did! He has now become my â first callâ electrician and I am happy to partner with him for all my house electrical needs."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

Cold weather can cause older incandescent Christmas lights to fail by causing cracks in the finish or the glass itself. Modern LED lights are affected in the opposite way and perform even better as the temperature drops.

If you need to visually inspect your Christmas lights to determine which are good and which need replacement, there are a few things to look for. First, look for discoloration, such as a dark spot or two on the inside of the glass. The spot is an indication of a burnt filament. Also, look for missing filaments, cracked bulb glass, and broken sockets.

High-quality landscape lights that are hardwired and properly maintained can last for 10 to 25 years or more. You’ll usually get a longer lifespan from soffit lights and wall-mounted lights that aren’t directly exposed to the elements or prone to damage from foot traffic or vehicle traffic. Solar-powered and battery-powered lights often won’t last as long, but you can still expect a lifespan of five to 15 years.

If your lights are shorting out during rain storms or other winter events, you should probably replace them. These shorts indicate electrical issues that could cause serious hazards. Look for outdoor-rated lights with connectors made for rainy conditions to replace them. But if your Christmas lights are new and you want further protection, you can find weatherproof covers to add to the male-end connectors of your Christmas light strings. These can minimize the risk of shorts.

The cost to repair outdoor lighting typically ranges from $100 to $400. The final price depends on the severity of the damage, the specific issue, the type of lighting system, and the parts needed. Some repairs are priced per fixture, averaging $100 to $300, and there may be additional fees if the lighting is difficult to access.
