"Jeremy and Joe from Nichols Electric were amazing. They came out the same day, designed and installed lighting and outlets for my garage and exterior. They even came back and moved some outlets for me in my new house. They were extremely pleasant to work with and helped me understand every step of the process. I'm definitely going to use them again on my next project."

"They had to come back twice since one light fixture required a special junction box that they did not have. They patched the upstairs hole in the wall from the old electrical box, but left the downstairs one open. The placement of the upstairs light is perfect, the downstairs is a bit too low."

"I had a plan developed by landscape architect that did not completely enhance my large yard. Mario was able to modify plan to create a balanced lighting plan. My yard now looks like a million bucks at night."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

There are a number of reasons that landscape lights burn out, including an incorrectly installed transformer, inconsistent voltage, and burned-out or faulty bulbs. Troubleshoot landscape lighting problems by first determining whether it’s a system-wide problem or an issue with just one light, which will help you get to the bottom of your outdoor lighting woes.

If you need to visually inspect your Christmas lights to determine which are good and which need replacement, there are a few things to look for. First, look for discoloration, such as a dark spot or two on the inside of the glass. The spot is an indication of a burnt filament. Also, look for missing filaments, cracked bulb glass, and broken sockets.

Before investing in motion sensor lights, there are a couple of disadvantages worth noting. For starters, they’re not as reliable as other forms of lighting. Motion sensor lights can be accidentally triggered by pets or wind, which can become a nuisance after a while. The opposite situation can occur, too, where they don’t turn on when you need them to.

DIY is possible for minor issues like bulb replacement. Professional services ensure proper wiring and functionality.

The average cost to install outdoor or landscape lighting is around $4,000, with most projects ranging from $2,000 to $6,000. The total cost can vary widely depending on several factors, including the number of fixtures, design complexity, and the type and quality of the lights used, such as wall sconces, pathway lights, or lamp posts. Other factors that influence the price are the square footage of the area being lit, the amount of electrical work needed, any required excavation or trenching, and local permitting costs. For specific types, you might pay around $100 for pathway or string lighting and up to $700 for lamp post lighting.
