"Valles is A Plastering. Joaquin and crew are hardworking and honest. Didn’t have to worry about anything going missing or being overcharged. (They bring their own porta- potty, so no workmen need to come in the house) They want to do things right and are very versatile at fixing things they come across that need fixed. My house is very old, so there were things like dry rot, termite damage, drainage issues and several other things that needed addressed and were. Stucco work is excellent. Very capable. Very professional. Paid attention to detail and cleaned up after themselves every day. Really appreciated that. Feels like I have a brand new house that is so beautiful and looks like I had imagined it would. My neighbors really like it too."

"I am remodeling my bathroom and needed drywall and texturing done. I contacted ZVN for an estimate and Zefe was here the next day. We went over the project, agreed on a competitive cost and ZVN shortly started the work. Zefe completed the work within a few days and made sure that the project matched my expectations. The replaced drywall matched perfect and the texturing of the entire bathroom made the room look brand new as if it had originally been built that way. Zefe strives for the customers’ satisfaction and is easy to work with. His many years of experience were evident in the completed project. ZVN was always responsive and completed the project on time as estimated."

"Workers showed up on time (actually early) and began work quickly. Immediately remedied incorrect work performed as a result of a miscommunication without question. Protected my home from damage while work was being performed. Accurately communicated additional work to be performed when problems were discovered. Finished all work in the timeframe promised, cleaned up properly and completed all patchwork to my satisfaction. The owner, Art, is friendly, professional and quoted a fair price. I will definitely recommend REPIPE PRO to my family and friends."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

Both plaster and drywall are durable wall finishes, but they differ significantly in installation, cost, performance, and aesthetics.

Installation & Cost: Drywall installation is faster and more affordable, typically costing $1.50 to $3 per square foot. It uses premade sheets, making it a more accessible DIY project. Plastering is a labor-intensive craft that requires specialized skills, pushing costs to $2 to $10 per square foot. It involves applying a wet paste over a lath framework.

Durability & Performance: Plaster is generally more durable, longer-lasting, and provides superior soundproofing. It is also a better insulator, which can help reduce energy costs. Drywall is easier to remove for future renovations.

Aesthetics: Drywall provides a smooth, uniform surface ready for paint or texture. Plaster offers a high-end, naturally textured look that can hide imperfections and is often preferred for achieving a classic or historic aesthetic.

Which is better? The choice depends on your priorities. Drywall is ideal for those prioritizing a lower upfront cost, faster installation, and DIY potential. Plaster is the better option for a higher-end project where durability, soundproofing, and a unique, premium finish are more important than the initial cost.

Your walls are likely cracking due to fluctuations in the temperature outside. Drywall tends to expand and contract when temperatures and humidity levels change, and this repeated movement can lead to cracks in your walls, particularly around door frames. If you have multiple diagonal cracks, you may want to have your foundation inspected, as cracks can also be a sign of a bigger issue.

You can plaster over regular drywall, but it's essential to prepare the surface properly. Before plastering, the drywall should be clean, free of dust, and any loose or peeling paint should be removed. Applying a primer specifically designed for plastering can improve adhesion. Some professionals recommend applying a base coat of plaster or joint compound to create a better surface for the plaster to adhere to. Proper preparation ensures a smooth and durable plaster finish over regular drywall.

If you already have plaster walls and ceilings, adding new plaster costs $2 to $10 per square foot. For an average-sized room, that would come out to $1,200 to $10,000. However, the cost to replace plaster with drywall is higher—running between $720 and $1,250 for a 10-by-8-foot wall or ceiling (not including drywall finishing).

Common causes of ceiling cracks along drywall seams include poor drywall installation techniques, structural issues, truss uplift, and foundation problems. Temperature and humidity also play major roles in ceiling cracks flush with the wall. As the drywall shrinks and expands from major temperature changes or extreme humidity shifts, this can cause the drywall to crack.
