"Erinn was my initial contact and he gave a very through and fair estimate. We had structural work done to support floor joists and large beams under the garage that needed replacing. Ernesto and his team, Julio, Salvatore and Gilder worked tirelessly to complete the work and were respectful, punctual, informative and good humoured throughout the entire process. I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them to others. A really great company!!"

"I highly recommend Etan Home Construction. We needed a large concrete slab on the side of our home and needed some trees removed as well. Edward from Etan Home Construction was great to work with. I had 3 companies come out and give me estimations and Edward's estimation was not only fair, but I had a good feeling about him. He seemed honest and reliable, which proofed to be true. He came out with his crew a week later, removed the trees, leveled the area completely, finished the job on time and did a marvelous job. Concrete looks great. What is also nice is that Edward is easy to reach. Picks up his phone, is on time, replies to emails. Great man to work with."

"The crew did a great job. It took a week to finish due to some rain. The price was fair, as I compared it to several other contractors. They were not the lowest ones, but definitely not the highest ones. Roger was always available over the phone. The crew and leader, Juan, were very professional and courteous. I'd recommend them for sure."

Customers say: True professional

"Cristian and his team did an amazing job. They were fast, kept to their schedule and clean up when they were finished. As we walk around our neighborhood and see others with pavers and artificial grass, Cristian’s team has probably done one of the best work in the neighborhood. On top of that, Cristian honored his pricing and kept to his estimate. We would definitely hire again."

"From the initial point of contact for the final walk-through everything was spot on. Sean, Holly, and the entire Daulinghaus team was professional and friendly. I bid out five total contractors inland they by far were the most fair and reasonable yet qualified. They had a plan and they resolve my issue"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Handbuilt masonry fireplaces are likely what comes to mind when we think about curling up by the fire at the end of the day. But bricks in the firebox and chimney tend to be heavy, which is not ideal for homes with weak or damaged foundations.

Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.

Yes, you can paint stone on the exterior of a house. It’s important to properly prep the stone by cleaning off dirt and debris. You’ll want to apply at least two coats of paint to get the most even and complete coverage. Any pinholes or missed spots, however small, can allow moisture to get into the masonry and potentially cause the paint to blister and peel from the stone.

A fireplace is, by definition, an enclosed space where you burn wood or other fuel for the purpose of generating light and heat. A firepit burns wood and is much less expensive to build, but they aren’t technically a fireplace as it isn’t enclosed. An outdoor oven—commonly outdoor brick pizza ovens—often uses wood as fuel, but its primary purpose is to cook food, and you’d rarely just burn wood inside them for warmth or aesthetic reasons.

Yes, as long as the cut is clean and the brick remains structurally sound, you can reuse it. Reusing brick is especially common for landscaping, edging, and small masonry repairs. Just make sure to file down any sharp edges before handling or installing it.

Drilling into brick or mortar requires the use of a masonry drill bit. Masonry drill bits appear similar to standard drill bits except for the leading tip of the bit. The tip has a bulky carbide arrow-shaped end slightly larger than the rest of the bit shaft. Standard or high-speed drill bits designed for making holes in wood or metal don’t have the ruggedness or design shape you need to drill into brick. They may not go through the brick at all, and if they do, they’re more likely to overheat, crack, or dull before you finish drilling.
