"I am very pleased with the work done by JV Cabinets. They were timely and very responsive throughout the process. The refacing of the cabinets and updating the hinges have transformed the kitchen. The stone counter top is made of quality stone and was installed wonderfully. I will definitely have JV Cabinets do the kitchen in my other unit when the time comes."

Small jobs welcome

"I hate being condescended to. Listen to what I want and then give suggestions on how I might be able to work that out in my kitchen. Don't just tell me it can't be done. I felt like I was wasting my time. I asked about a particular type of closet (not realizing it was part of a bigger cabinet...how would I know) and she told me to follow her (using her finger to me like a child) and said I couldn't have it because it was as part of a bigger piece. She could have just said that. I said if I can't make my kitchen more "usable" (less wasted space), WHY to with custom cabinets. I could just reface. The woman behind me who was waiting to ask her a question said. Listen, if you can't get what you want, I don't blame you for not spending the money. It's easy to reface. So, I called another company and, low and behold, I'm getting partial refacing and partial custom cabinets. He came and we discussed HOW I could get my carousel cabinet (uh - he suggested I go from a double to a single sink - easy peasy) AND, he came in at half the price your website suggested I might pay. It is really nice to be listened to...especially when it's MY money I'm spending."

"Top Quality Painting - Our Favorite! (We had several big projects.) Why we loved Top Quality Painting: Nathan's bid for both wall painting, and kitchen and bath cabinet refinishing (sanding and repainting), was very reasonable. His excellent crew of Jorge, Walter and Luis did a careful skillful job of prepping, masking and painting with beautiful ceiling and baseboard lines. As part of prep and finish, the hard-working friendly crew repaired a toilet roll holder, straightened towel racks, removed a blank outlet, caulked cracks, and handled other out-of-reach issues. Leave some flex time - the start of our job got pushed out a few days while they were finishing others, and began with another crew. All interior walls (excluding closets and utility rooms) and cabinets were completed over 18 days. Floor installers said they do not repair/paint baseboard. We paid an hourly rate for the Top Quality Painting crew to return to prep and paint the baseboard after the wood floor refinishers were done. To get the best job do your part: clean baseboards in advance, clear the way, point out any misses/issues as you go, and show appreciation. Top Quality Painting resolved many problems along the way, including those caused by others. Their goal was our satisfaction. We give Top Quality Painting our highest recommendation!

Kitchen Cabinet Refacing questions, answered by experts

Since there are many methods of repairing your cabinets, including refacing and refinishing, it can be tricky to know when to replace or fix your existing cabinets. Generally, it’s best to repair your existing cabinets when the cabinet boxes are in good condition. Additionally, this option is best when you’re being budget-friendly or remodeling.

Replacing your cabinets is best when you’re changing the layout of the room or when the cabinet boxes are in rough shape. It’s also best to replace your cabinets if you need more storage space, as this will remove the existing cabinets for new ones.

Yes, soft-close drawers are quick and simple to add to a refacing project. Get in touch with a kitchen cabinet refacing contractor for an estimate. In many cases, your cabinet contractor or repair person can bundle the cost of upgrading your cabinets to soft-close drawers into the total bill of your project. They may even offer a discount for combining these services, but you’ll need to shop around for the best deal.

Yes, replacing cabinet doors only as part of a cabinet refacing project. During the cabinet-refacing process, the doors and drawers are typically replaced, while the cabinet boxes themselves are covered with a veneer or laminate. If you’re content with the look of the cabinet boxes, however, you can simply swap out the doors to save money on labor and materials.

If you don't sand your cabinets, the new paint or stain won’t adhere properly, impacting the final finish and leading to peeling, chipping, or a sloppy result that won't stand the test of time. Sanding removes the old finish, smooths imperfections, and gives the new coat something to grip. Without it, you will waste your time, money, and effort.

Refacing your kitchen cabinets can be a wise investment if you want to enhance the look of your kitchen or sell your home in a competitive market. Upgrading your kitchen and bathrooms, from simple cabinet remodels to full remodels, usually leads to a faster sale compared to homes with outdated looks. Even if you don’t plan to sell, though, the pride and satisfaction you’ll feel can make this project more than worthwhile.
