"First Thought Plumbing's Kenny is very professional, punctual, knowledgeable, pleasant and offers affordable and reasonable rates for his great service. I searched for a plumber yesterday and he was the first to call and respond to my need. He came on time, he knows what to do, very responsive to inquires via phone or text. Amazing, professional worker who won't price gouge or try to upsell you. Recommendable! Thanks Kenny!"

"I highly recommend Chajon Plumbing. Giovanni come on time. I was thinking of doing French drain alongside my house. He looked at everything very thoroughly and recommended against it. He told me that because there is no water visible French drain will not work. Save me thousands of dollars. other contractors just gave me expensive bids. I also have blockage in my sewer line. He evaluated the blockage and advice me to use some chemical cleaners on it instead of snaking the sewer line. Overall very honest and professional plumber. I have plumbing needs in the future I will definitely call Chajon Plumbing."

"Javier was super. He gave me an estimate when I spoke to him on the phone and when I agreed, he told me that he could come over the next day. (It was not an emergency.) He called when he was about 15 minutes away and showed up well within the 2 hour window he had said. He pulled the toilet and camera scoped the outflow pipe, removing the blockage while showing me the corrosion of the almost closed, 60 year old cast iron pipe that also had root invasion. He then reset the toilet with a new wax ring. He charged what his estimate had been, cleaned up the work area and was very nice. I would hire him again."

"Great. The plumber arrived right on time and got to work quickly. The fees were very reasonable - I had braced for much worse, and I got a discount b/c of the Angie's List membership. Highly recommended."

"The problem was the toilet. They hydro Jett the main sewer line , using a camera to demonstrate where roots were. Afterwards , the toilet flushing was still as slow as it ever was. Better support would have been to suggest YouTube video titled unbelievable Trick to Make Your Toilet Flush Like Never Before! On jayâ s How To Channel which showed how to remove calcium & lime deposits Fromm the jets of my toilet using extra strength vinegar poured many times down the overflow spout Iâ m the tank. They didnâ t even bother to check out the toilet until AFTER the sewer line Hydro-jet."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

This rumbling noise after flushing may sound like a hammer or knocking inside the walls. When you flush, it opens a valve so additional water can come in. However, if the valve malfunctions, then this rush of water has nowhere to go, which makes all the excess water hit your pipes and create a loud hammering sound.

Yes, frozen pipes can cause a toilet to stop working correctly. If the pipes are frozen, water cannot flow, which can lead to two main problems. First, the supply line to the toilet tank may be frozen, which prevents the tank from refilling with water after you flush. Second, the drain pipe itself can freeze, blocking water from flushing away. As a temporary solution for a non-refilling tank, you can manually add water, but this is not a long-term fix. To clear a frozen drain pipe, you can try pouring warm water into the toilet bowl or tank and then flushing, as the warm water may help thaw the ice blockage. Ultimately, the best course of action is to unfreeze the affected pipes to restore your toilet to full functionality.

If you know the job is going to be extensive (and you don’t like surprises), hiring a Roto-Rooter specialist may make sense for you. You’ll know how much you’re going to pay right away.

That said, hiring the best plumber isn’t solely about price. If you've worked with a plumber you trust before or have a list of plumbing services you need tackled at your home, working with a plumber might be a better choice for you.

Yes, you can pour water down the toilet to help it flush. For each flush, you’ll need 1 to 2 gallons of water for newer toilets or 3 to 5 gallons of water for older toilets. Rather than dumping the entire bucket in all at once, pour the water in slowly for the best results. If you’re pouring water down the toilet to help it flush after a clog, only use 1 gallon of hot water.

Yes, a toilet, sink, and shower can share the same vent. This is a common plumbing practice that can simplify installation and save space. When sharing a vent, it's important that the toilet is located downstream from all other fixtures. You will also need to ensure the vent pipe is large enough to handle the demands of all connected fixtures without compromising its effectiveness. Because requirements can vary, you should always check your local building and plumbing codes. Consulting a qualified plumber is recommended to ensure the vent is properly sized, installed, and adheres to all local regulations.
