"Ryan was perfectly on-time and was a plumbing scholar and a gentleman. We had a simple drain replacement under a new sink. Going to Western saved me at least another day of trying to figure out proper parts and doing the install myself, and it also saved my wife's ears from hearing my salty language."

"Jose and his co-workers were great. He arrived promptly, figured out where the clogs were and cleared them with a combination of hydro jetting and root cutting. When the work was completed he tested for clogs and installed a riser and cleaned up so you couldn’t tell any work was done at all. Highly recommend So Cal Plumbing and Rooter!"

"Giovanni is a very knowledgeable, courteous and professional plumber. He did an excellent job of clearing my yard drains while being careful and thorough. He was very resourceful in figuring out how to clear a narrow and difficult pool drain as well. He made sure everything was working perfectly before he left and even checked in with me the next day. He is reasonably priced and I would highly recommend him."

"I contacted California Drains because my parent's home was completely backed up to the point where dirty water was coming out from the drains inside and outside their home. They promptly answered and booked me in the same day. They were able to contain the water from continuing to come out of the drains overnight and returned the next day first thing in the morning to get the problem fixed. Price was very reasonable, and the workers were very professional. Left everything clean and drains were completely cleared. It has been months since they came and there has not been an issue since. 10/10 will highly recommend to family and friends."

"Overall experience was great. Good email exchange with pricing options worked well; price was very competitive. Amenable to my schedule. Punctual. Work was clean and efficient, with excellent post-install cleanup and trash removal. Only issue right now is I haven't yet gotten a receipt."

FAQs for drain cleaning projects in Glendale, CA

On average, a plumber will take 30 minutes to two hours to clear a clogged drain. If the clog is located close to the drain or an access point and isn’t severe, the project will take about half an hour. If the clog is deep within your plumbing system or is a severe blockage, it can take two or more hours to remove the clog. For this reason, main line clogs tend to take longer, usually between two and three hours.

It’s possible to snake minor drain clogs yourself, provided they sit within a foot or two of the drain itself, but it’s usually best to hire a professional plumber regardless. Even experienced DIYers have a high chance of accidentally pushing the clog further into the drain using a drain snake or another tool, so hiring a plumber is the ideal course of action. A professional plumber can use camera equipment to locate and identify the clog, and remove the entire blockage to fix your issue permanently.

In most areas, drain cleaning professionals don’t technically need a license, as they aren’t altering your plumbing system in any way. However, we recommend hiring a drain cleaning professional with a plumbing license and certification. Certified plumbers are more likely to provide professional solutions to drain clogs without damaging your system. They’ll also have the diagnostic tools and experience necessary to remove the clog entirely rather than providing a temporary solution, as a handyperson might. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to check your plumber’s professional licenses before hiring.

Applying drain cleaner is a common DIY solution to clogged drains, but it can be extremely harmful to your pipes and lead to corrosion and leaks. It is almost always better to try snaking a clog than using a drain cleaner, but the best solution is to hire a professional plumber. They can locate the clog and gauge the severity using a camera system and then decide if using a plumber’s snake, auger, or drain cleaner is the best option to remove the clog and limit damage to your plumbing system.

The average cost to unclog a drain is around $200, with prices ranging between $110 and $800, depending on the type of drain and the extent of the clog. Hiring a professional to snake the toilet or sink will usually cost between $110 and $275, a bathtub or shower typically costs around $225, and a main line clog can cost between $100 and $800 based on the severity of the clog and how far beyond the access point the clog sits. Since the labor involved varies, most plumbers will charge an hourly rate for drain cleaning.
