"Our large deck was sorely neglected - no maintenance in at least 8 years - and I worried it was beyond help or would be cost-prohibitive to rehabilitate. Rupert and Michael breathed new life into it! Rupert (company principle) is very responsive, and he was able to give a quick informal estimate based on some photos and I texted. This made it very easy to start working together right away. Now the deck looks beautiful, and they were able to stain our wooden deck furniture to match. Great makeover for our deck and lovely folks to work with!"

"We worked with Ali (sales manager) and Tony (project manager), who took the time to design a project that made sense for our property and our budget, made a number of suggestions and recommendations and were never pushy or tried to "sell" us on something. The crew really went above and beyond to provide top quality workmanship and overall we were in very good hands. Highly recommended!"

"Excellent! It was in the beginning of November. It was 2000. An interior painting of 2 rooms including all the trim, walls, and ceilings, 2 complete rooms, everything painted. They did an outstanding job preppy. The taping, covering of the floors, I have never seen the painters do thorough job of prepping. I am a beauty painter and I think they did an outstanding, the quality is excellent. The finished product is fabulous too. No complaints and will definitely use them again. They are very present and professional."

"Finally an honest Solar company!! I went through several companies trying to get quotes for one of my properties, either they were ridiculously expensive or they didn't return my calls. A friend of mine referred me to Mega Sun and I have to say I am very pleased. Within a couple days from the initial phone call I already had an estimate and once i decided to go with them the installation was completed in one week. Its been a little over a month since they completed the install and everything is working smoothly.

I was amazed at just how great the customer service was. I just want to say thank you to the whole team who helped out, I really appreciate all your hard work. Now I know you guys are the ones to call for all future jobs."

"I was recommended to Fine Point Painting by my parents. In the past my parents had bad luck with contractors who gave meaning to the term, Jack of All Trades Master at None. I grew up doubting contractors but Bill and his crew were fantastic. When he came out to do the bid he answered all of my questions and was thorough on explaining to me the reasons. When I had additional questions/concerns he was quick to reply via email.
The house we purchased to put it nicely, was in bad shape. Previously, it was a rental which I'm sure you can imagine the state
it was in. It also had termite damage in which Bill advised me to have the paint job done after the fumigation tenting. Apparently,
fumigation causes fresh paint to peel!!! Thank goodness we painted after the tenting.
We had the whole works done on the interior. The acoustic popcorn on the ceiling was removed, sanded, textured, primed, and
painted throughout the house. Also, the trim, doors and cabinets had oil based paint which needed to be sanded and primed in order for the latex paint to stick. The walls were sanded as well to remove embedded hair follicles and pebbles that were painted in the walls from the previous painter. Most of the interior of the house and entire garage smelled of animal urine and they pressure washed the garage with a cleaning solution to eliminate the smell. There were numerous cracks on the walls and ceilings which they filled. There were also 8 giant holes in the walls that they patched. They did an amazing job on the patchwork since you can't tell they were there!!! His crew was professional, courteous and they came on time. Also, they cleaned up after themselves very well. And this is coming from someone who is borderline OCD.
There were no hidden fees or added fees tacked on at the end. What made it easier for us was a payment plan which was broken down into 3 payment installations. This meant we paid them after each chunk of work was completed. I have heard stories where people have paid contractors upfront and the contractors run away with money or they don't finish the project.
If Angie's List had +'s and -'s I would give them A+'s. There are no words to express how pleased we are with Fine Point Painting. Our house looks amazing, the garage has no smell and I will hire them again for future projects.

"He was a local painter. He and his team of painters were terrific. He did a real good job. The job cost me $3000. His price was good. I had received other estimates for the work and his estimate was the most reasonable. They were very well organized, very informative. Their work ethics was excellent. They completed the work in three days that included, preparation, trim, and double layers. They consulted with me from time to time regarding my requirements. They worked from the minute they came out to the moment they left. They took only a lunch break. The owner, Mr. Leonard, had to go out of town. His team continued to work, providing the same quality of work, in his entire absence. They continued as if he were there. He didn?t call me back regarding the questions that I had. However, his team repeatedly asked me questions regarding what and how I wanted things done. When he came back, I told him that I was very impressed with the team and that he had a trustworthy team. It was an excellent team. I am planning to use him for the interior painting, shortly. I will ask for the same team to do the job. I had a really good experience with them. His prices were extremely reasonable. I am extremely happy with the quality of their work. They dug away the dirt from the foundation of the house and painted below the dirt line. It was extraordinary. They put the dirt back. They were very clean. They cleaned up after themselves everyday. At the end of the job, they cleaned everything again and hauled it all away. They did an awesome job. They came out on time. They would inform me in advance as to the time they would arrive. They would come out within 15 minutes of the designated time. I will definitely use them again in the future for interior painting."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

To flatten a cupped deck board, start by ensuring it’s dry. Then, try flipping the board over so the cupped side faces down and reattach it. If that’s not possible, you can use screws to pull it tighter to the joists or plane the edges slightly to reduce the cup. It’s best to replace severely cupped boards.

Yes, adding railing to a deck is a great way to improve safety and your home’s aesthetic appeal. Railings can be constructed from wood, metal, or composite, and there are plenty of choices regarding design and style. Always consult local building codes before starting any building project—there are often requirements regarding spacing and height that can differ slightly from place to place.

Yes, snow should be removed from a deck to protect it from damage caused by moisture and heavy loads. Shovel the snow off of your deck regularly once it is more than four inches deep. Avoid using salt, which can damage your deck.

Building a deck isn't too hard if you’re handy with carpentry, have the necessary tools, and are willing to put effort into it. However, other factors, such as plans, permits, and design, can be hard if you don’t have experience in those areas.

Note: You’ll need another person to help you build the deck (especially for framing and setting the beams). Building a deck yourself will be very difficult if you don’t have an extra set of hands to help.

Cutting the boards directly is one of the fastest ways to remove deck boards with hidden fasteners. Mark two parallel lines that are one-third of the total measurement on both ends and cut out the centerpiece. Then, remove the end of the board that doesn’t have a fastener. Finally, pry open the fastened side and pull it up to pop out the screw or access the fastener. This also allows you to salvage portions of boards for other projects.
