"Revival Painting work was absolutely perfect. Jonathan, the owner, was more than reasonable with the cost of my project. He showed up on time, when he said he would. He got the job started and was on the job to the finish. He helped me pick out the right stain for my deck as I was having a problem picking one and was so on target with the color. In finishing up, Jonathan, and his worker, did a walk through of the deck to make sure it was complete, did touch ups that were needed and completed the project on time. My deck looks wonderful! I'd hire him again in a heartbeat! Thank you Jonathan and Revival Painting! Quality work. Value extraordinaire!"

Customers say: Quick response

"We have a single story home in Rio Del Mar, built partially on stilts with some very difficult areas to access. Gregory came over and gave us a bid and we were very impressed with his knowledge of the problems that we could have and the areas that needed some maintenance first. He had his handyman come initially and fix some deck and gate problems. Then started the power washing, sanding and all of the pre-work. He and his workers were extremely diligent and some of the hardest workers that I have ever experienced. Gregory kept us informed the entire time about the progress and the timing of when they would be here. He scheduled the scaffolding to be brought in and the porta-potty for his painters. They were so detail oriented and when the finished product was completed it looked great. We've had other homes painted before, but never with such thorough work and attention. I would highly recommend Gregory and his crew for any painting job that you may have. They're the best."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

The best type of paint for concrete exterior surfaces like concrete porches, steps, or walkways is high-quality exterior-grade paint with strong weather resistance. Acrylic latex blends with tiny anti-slip particles will help create an anti-slip coating for your concrete porch. This type of paint will stand up best to the elements, especially rain, snow, and ice. An exterior epoxy will also help strengthen your concrete porch.

You’ll want to avoid excessively hot or humid conditions, so it’s best to apply your stain in late spring to early fall. It's also important to watch the weather forecast and aim for days when there isn’t rain expected for at least three days. For new decks, allow the wood to season beforehand for at least four to eight weeks.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.

Most gutter painting pros also specialize in complete home exterior painting. You may save by making your gutter painting part of the cost to paint the exterior of a house in its entirety. Many people have all parts of their home exterior painted simultaneously to keep everything looking equally fresh. Consider having walls, trim, porches, shutters, and doors painted as well.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.
