"Paul's work is Great! I am more then happy with the front door he installed. He goes above and beyond to get the job done right. I hired Paul for a second job replacing siding on my home, as well as adding architectural features. He worked from my drawings and completed the job beautifully. I would hire Paul again for all of my home projects."

"My experience with Eric and his guys was outstanding. I recently moved into a condo and I needed some work done including painting some rooms. First of all, I would like to say that you cannot get a better contractor than Eric. He is very knowledgeable and will do an accurate and honest assessment of the work to be done. His guys did a phenomenal job. They were reliable, always on time and very attentive to what I would ask them to do and they made sure that I was 100% happy with the work. I would definitely recommend Progressive Builders and I would use them again anytime."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Whether you should repair or replace a screen door depends on the type and extent of the damage. It is easy and economical to repair a small tear in the mesh using a widely available DIY patch kit. However, if there are large tears, multiple damaged spots, or if the screen is made of a specialized material, replacing the entire screen mesh might be a better long-term investment for a tidier appearance. You should also consider the condition of the frame; if the frame itself is damaged, it's likely time to replace the entire door. Other factors to weigh include whether you want a new style or need a more durable door.

A screened-in porch requires maintenance to keep the screens clean and in good shape, and you may have to do some screen repair or replacement from time to time. A screen porch isn’t an all-season porch, so the weather can get in, including wind and rain.

It’s possible to make minor screen repairs yourself using a waterproof adhesive for small tears or a screen patch kit for larger tears and holes. However, it’s usually a better option to call in a professional window technician. It’s very easy to use too much waterproof glue, resulting in a messy appearance that might demand a full replacement anyway. A screen repair technician will not only be able to carry out clean repairs and patches that aren’t obvious, but they can also let you know if replacing your screen is a more cost-effective option.

Window screens can take anywhere between 10 minutes and an hour to replace, depending on the complexity of the replacement and the accessibility of the window. Replacing the screen inside an existing frame normally takes longer than replacing an entire screen, frame and all, if you purchase a prefabricated screen already mounted on the frame.

The screen on many screen doors is held in place by screen spline. Screen spline is typically a thin vinyl tubing that fits into the groove of the door’s frame and holds the screen in place. To install the spline on a screen door, you’ll need a spline roller—a tool that presses the spline and screen into the door’s narrow groove. Note that old spline can crack and break, so replacing your screens is a good time to replace the spline, too.
