Customers say: Quality work

"Rick was punctual, efficient, knowledgeable, and professional. He repaired a curtain rod which I thought might be irreparable. He fixed it, with a fair price. Had him do measurements for other window treatments, and he was able to give me a quote. He had swatches, and explained the different possibilities, and prices. Lucky to find Rick to do the work. "Hello, I went on Angie’s list to find an installer for window coverings that I purchased from Costco. Younan the owner of the company called me within minutes. The price he quoted me to install these window coverings was completely in line. I hired him immediately and agreed on price and timeframe to install. Today he arrived with his son and six widows where completed in 1:30 minutes. He was so professional that my wife and I are going to hire Younan to do nine widows and a sliding glass door. I would highly recommend this company for window coverings on quality, price, and expertise!"

"Ed , the contractor from The Shutter Doctor was absolutely great. He arrived on time, reviewed the repairs that needed to be done with me and went to work. He also offered to adjust an upper part of my shutter doors that was never installed correctly and they finally look finished. His price was fair and his work ethic was better than expected. Also, he has a great sense of humor and I would definitely recommend him for any job related to shutters, window or doors. Georgia Kennedy, Palm Desert, Ca."

Customers say: True professional

"Leo was very helpful and quick to respond. We’re happy with how our 2 bathrooms turned out. Project was completed within the time promised. Our only complaint is that the workers did not clean up very well. But overall, we’re satisfied and we’ll use them again."

Window Treatments questions, answered by experts

Tinting your windows will make your house darker since it will prevent some sunlight from getting inside. While you can choose a window film that is on the lighter side, there will still be reduced sunlight. If natural light is important to you, tinted windows might not be the best choice for your home.

Casement windows are safer against intruders than double-hung windows because they are extremely difficult to pry open from the outside. However, if you’re concerned about young kids or pets, double-hung windows have safety features you might prefer. With double-hung windows vs. single-hung or casement windows, you can lock the bottom sash and open just the top sash to keep children and dogs or cats safe.

The entire window replacement process, from the initial consultation to the final installation, typically takes between four and 15 weeks. This timeline accounts for measuring appointments, ordering, and manufacturing. On the day of the job, the physical installation takes about 30 minutes to two hours per window. A full-house replacement can take one to three days to complete. Factors that can extend this timeline include the total number of windows, custom sizes, complex window types, second-story installations, and any necessary repairs to existing window frames or openings.

The type of casement window you have depends on where the hinges are located, the number of sashes, the style, and how the windows open. Single casement windows are popular casement windows that use a handle or crank to open. If you have two casement windows side by side, you likely have double casement windows.

Windows that swing inward can tip you off to having in-swing casement windows, while windows that open from the bottom and swing outwards are top-hinged. If you can open your windows by pushing them outwards like a door, you may have a type of push-out window.

Replacing basement windows can be worth the cost if replacement is necessary. If your windows are leaking and leading to water damage in your basement, it’s absolutely worth replacing them. Similarly, if your basement windows are no longer insulating your basement or pose a security risk, you need to replace them.

In some cases, you may be able to save money by repairing a window instead of replacing it. A contractor can help you decide the right course of action.
