"It was a pleasure working with Chris and Kari. Chris did an excellent job on waterproofing my deck (previously was covered with an artificial turf). He removed this and over one week laid down multiple layers of the waterproofing materials. He did such a good job, we invited him back months later to put epoxy coating on our garage floor. Both times, he was extremely professional, on time, and clean. The deck and garage look awesome. During the rainy season, we did not have any problems with the deck and it is draining appropriately. Price was very fair ($4300 for the deck, lowest offer we got. $2150 for a three car garage epoxy floor, also very competitive). Would not hesitate to use their services again."

"The service went well.  They tore off the rain gutters and fixed some other things.  They did a good job prepping.  The owner came out and was friendly and courteous.  He explained things well.  It took two and a half days to paint.  They do good work. They are fairly quick and good to work with."

"I hired Palm Construction to remodel my kitchen and I can't say enough positive things about this company. Mike and his team were extremely professional, efficient, clean and well organized. Mike was very helpful, gave me great suggestions and informed me about everything important. I was out of town for a week but I knew exactly what was going on all the time. The project was finished on time and quality is as promised, at highest level. Thanks Mike on beautiful new kitchen, will recommend this great company to friends and neighbors!"

"United Builders did an excellent job remodeling our patio. We had a flagstone patio installed about a year and a half ago (with another company), but it wasn't done well and the flagstones were lifting up. We originally were thinking of having the flagstone redone, but Mike gave us the great suggestion of using pavers and extending the length of the patio and we are very satisfied with the final results!
The entire job was done very professionally, and we were impressed with the small details- like cutting the pavers to fit tightly around some pipes. Mike was great in giving us design ideas and really was patient and supportive through the whole process. Also we got a great gas firepit built in the center which looks very nice and makes our patio usable in the evening so overall we will get more use out of it. The crew did a good job cleaning up, and Mike was attentive to all of my questions during and after the project. When it rained and the water heater pilot light went out, the company sent their plumber out again to relight it and reseal the gaps in the newly installed water heater shed. Also when our sprinklers wouldn't turn on after the project was completed he came and figured out the problem (fuse needed to be replaced) and fixed it for us for no additional charge. We definitely will use this company again!

"I did not know Steve Pope.  He had been recommended to me.  I called 2 of his references that were quick to to speak very well about his work.  I went to see one of the homes he had done and it looked great.

Quality and price are important, but right behind quality and price is communication and dependability.  Steve assured me that the quality of his word and dependability was golden and his communication would be the same.  The property took a little over 3 months to complete.  Rarely did I text or call Steve where I did not get a reply in minutes.  He and I probably exchanged 2 to 3 texts per day and a phone call each day as well.

Steve runs a tight ship.  His crew left the house as clean as possible, every day.  From the electricians, to the plumbers, to the framers, to the tile layers, to the painters, every person I met was professional and polite.

I have a neighbor who was difficult to deal with.  Steve handled him like a snake charmer and kept that neighbor away from me.  That skill alone was a gift that came at no extra charge.

I had chosen tile for one of the bathrooms.  I received a text from Steve questioning the tile and accent combination.  Thank goodness he did.  The tile was not the tile I had ordered!

Steve Pope did a wonderful job on my house.  He is a easy to work with, no nonsense, great communicator, attention to detail contractor.  I highly recommend Steve and his company, Inline General Contracting..

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

When sourced responsibly, the most sustainable wood decking options are timber trees like redwood, pine, Douglas fir, Nootka cypress, and Western red cedar. These tree species are fast-growing with low carbon emissions. Plus, most timber woods make durable deck materials because of their resistance to rot and decay over time.

Constant exposure to inclement weather conditions can damage your deck, causing it to fade, warp, or crack over time. Regular maintenance keeps it looking and performing its best. That means giving it a good cleaning and applying a quality sealant or wood treatment to help defend against moisture, sun damage, and everyday wear.

The life expectancy of deck boards varies widely based on the material, climate, and maintenance. Untreated wood boards typically last 10 to 30 years with proper care, while pressure-treated boards can last up to 50 years. Hardwoods generally outlast softwoods. Composite boards also tend to last longer than natural wood. Environmental factors like arid or humid climates can shorten a deck's lifespan. To extend the life of wood decking, it's important to consistently clean and seal it to protect against moisture, UV light, and insects.

PVC decking tends to be cooler than composite because the material is less dense and absorbs less heat. However, it depends on the deck’s color. A dark-colored PVC deck may run hotter than a light-colored composite deck. If you’re concerned about your deck getting too hot, it’s best to stick to a light color such as beige or gray.

Building a deck is often worth the investment, not only because it provides more utility to your yard and gives you more space to entertain but also because decks tend to add value to your home. Keep in mind that second-story decks often require concrete footings, which means they will bump up your property taxes, while decks built on the first story generally don’t require a permanent foundation and won’t affect your taxes. Even with the tax increase, decks are usually a good investment in the long run.
