"We hired McCormick Home Builders to remodel our living room, and we are beyond pleased with the result. The team was professional, worked efficiently, and Aris design ideas made a huge difference. The room feels so much brighter and more spacious. This was the best decision we made for our home, and we were already planning our next remodel with them."

"He was very creative about the project and extremely knowledgeable about the technical aspects of the job. He was willing to work with us on pricing. He was able to fix several drafting flaws and basically improved the entire design. He was up front about all costs, very helpful about correcting problem areas of existing structure as they were uncovered, and answering all of our questions; giving very practical and cost effective advice . His paperwork and cost tracking for payment draws was very clear and followed the contract. He communicated well and clearly throughout the job about any overruns that came up."

"We were seeking to remodel a downstairs bathroom in the residence of our mixed-use property in the Big Bear region of the San Bernardino mountains. We estimate the property started out as a small shack in the early 1900s. It has been added to by multiple owners over the decades, culminating with our complete renovation in the 1990s - except for this bathroom. It had a few updated fixtures but still retained its flimsy beadboard paneling. It was small, drafty, awkwardly configured, and the floor sagged at the toilet. On top of that, it was situated near a dead end hallway that we wanted to incorporate into the bathroom space. No amount of lipstick was going to fix this pig. It had to be gutted. We first approached a big box hardware store, but after two months of constant emails with the coordinator, we still didn’t have an estimate. After some prodding, we received a “Well, we are up to X dollars so far” response. The off-the-cuff guesstimate was high, incomplete, and a total turn-off. We started seeking out local contractors and found Preferred Restoration on the HomeAdvisor website. After a meeting with the company owner, Jesse McHenry, we received a written proposal a few days later. The overall cost was reasonable, and the project was broken down by phase (demo, plumbing, electrical, etc.) with an estimated cost of each section. He clearly delineated what he was including in the estimate and what product we were responsible for purchasing and gave an estimated completion date. I have never received such a thorough and comprehensive breakdown of costs from a contractor in the last 25 years. I was impressed, and if his thoroughness on paper was any indication of his overall process, we were ready to sign up. Before beginning the project (and before each phase), Jesse gave us a rundown of what to expect in terms of time, noise level, ancillary workers, and product requirements. He curtained off the work section with plastic and tape, limiting the dust exposure and noise level. We gave him a key to the back door, but he always let us know when he would be coming. We were mostly preoccupied with our business next door but occasionally saw him throughout the day. He is certainly pleasant but always remained professional and unobtrusive. His subcontractors were also high quality. In addition, Jesse thoroughly monitored each phase for problems and was extremely diligent about making sure there were no leaks. He is highly focused, and his workmanship is superb. The design esthetic was largely owner-driven. We wanted an updated look but also wanted to maintain the same solid feel of the mountain house. We put in a jacuzzi tub to relax at the end of the day and kept the room uncluttered so it could serve as a guest bathroom at a moment’s notice. Jesse had some great recommendations including reconfiguring the arrangement to make the area more spacious and adding ambient floor heating, a cleverly concealed access panel to the tub mot"

Barndominium Builders questions, answered by experts

Depending on your needs, you may find a storebought pole barn is a much less expensive option than a custom-built one. You can find pole barn kits from big box retailers starting at $11,000, but you will be limited when it comes to size and add-on features. As long as you have the necessary skills, you can save on labor costs by doing it yourself; but there are a lot of different skill sets you would need, and mistakes during the building process can lead to excessive repair bills later.

Any type of construction that damages a tree’s roots via soil compaction can be dangerous, and is one of the primary causes of mature tree death in residential areas. Simply putting lots of weight on the ground around the tree, like construction supplies, trailers, and equipment, can kill roots near the surface. Of course, installing new foundations, patios, or utility lines can cut through nearby tree roots. Accidentally striking a tree with equipment or supplies is rarely a problem, but can cause damage of its own, too.

In the U.S., original and converted carriage houses are most often found in New England, New York, and other parts of the Northeast. New construction carriage houses can be found across the country, and are often added to properties with Colonial-style homes for additional living, storage, or work space, although they can be found in many different styles.

Concrete blocks are the cheapest way to base a shed. However, the space in between allows critters to go under, burrow, and even damage your shed’s frame. For a more pest-proof option, consider building a shed base with gravel or paver stones. Both options are fairly affordable and easy enough for a DIY project. For gravel, you can build a wooden frame to contain the loose material.

There's no simple answer to which is less costly: wood or metal-framed homes. In most cases, metal building components cost more than wooden ones, while entire metal buildings cost less than wooden versions. However, regardless of the exterior framing or structure, each must meet similar building codes. This means that the costs are about the same, even considering that wood will require more maintenance than metal over time.
