"Rolando Bay Area is great to work with. We had quite a bit of overgrowth in our backyard, but Rolando and his assistant had everything taken care of in a couple of hours. Our yard is now accessible for our dogs and the front yard looks great again. We now have a yard that we can keep up with and maintain. We will be working with Rolando Bay Area again in the future."

"Jose and his helpers excavated and replaced a sprinkler line broken in two places. They showed on time, completed the work and left the area cleaner than when they arrived. I would definitely use them again for similar sercvices!"

"quoted me $500 to prune 8 cypress trees a pomegranate tree and a mock orange. cancelled first appt due to equipment failure. texted him twice to confirm new appt. no answer. had to call. He sincerely apologized. they did the work, did fine with the trees, then I asked them to blow the leaves out of the front yard, paid them an extra $40. Not such a good job for $40. asked for an estimate for the back yard - waaayyy too much. i don't understand why people think they can charge $600 to prune 2 vines and blow out the yard. Business as usual is not the way to do business anymore. Sure, maybe some people have $600 lying around, but most of us don't. Carlos was very respectful, however, which does go a ways. I would hire him again to prune trees only."

"Pablo was professional and gave us a very detailed estimate of services. His crew always showed up on time each day and they worked hard. They followed safety procedures and put in a new front/back lawn with an sprinkler system. They also put in bushes so that we have a nice green hedge around the yard. I love looking out the window at our new green lawn. Thanks to Pablo and his crew, lawncare is going to be so much easier."

"Javier and his brother helped us fully replace sprinkler valves, our sprinkler controller and a bunch of leaks in hoses around the yard. I had a great experience from first contact to final inspection. Javier was very thorough, worked quickly and went above and beyond the scope of work to make sure everything works well. I'll definitely will be working with him on future projects!"

Lawns questions, answered by experts

There are several ways to dispose of excess sod, including building a compost pile, taking it to a green waste disposal facility, donating the sod, or reusing it in another part of your yard. It’s a good idea to check with your local municipality to see how to get rid of yard waste, as some areas have local regulations on what can go in the green waste bin. For example, your recycling services may reject too much soil added to green waste.

A standard home lawn mower with sharp blades can handle a thin layer of leaves without issue. You may need to make a couple of passes within several days to mulch leaves down, but your mower shouldn’t struggle. If your mower comes with a mulching kit, like an attachment to blow leaves out the side, that’s a good sign it’s ready for fall leaves. Set your mower to the highest or near-highest height for this project so it focuses on the leaves rather than the grass below.

Raking is one way to remove moss from your lawn. However, if you rake live moss, it can spread and exacerbate the problem. Instead, use a moss killer, then wait a couple of weeks before raking to ensure the moss is dead and can’t spread to other areas of your lawn.

DIY is possible for small amounts of waste. Professional services handle larger volumes efficiently.

It may not be worth it to rake every leaf in your yard, but it’s necessary to remove the majority of leaves to prevent them from smothering grass growth on your lawn. However, raking leaves isn’t your only option for leaf removal. You can remove leaves easily with a leaf blower or compost or mulch them with your lawn mower to repurpose them to help grow your garden or yard.
