"quoted me $500 to prune 8 cypress trees a pomegranate tree and a mock orange. cancelled first appt due to equipment failure. texted him twice to confirm new appt. no answer. had to call. He sincerely apologized. they did the work, did fine with the trees, then I asked them to blow the leaves out of the front yard, paid them an extra $40. Not such a good job for $40. asked for an estimate for the back yard - waaayyy too much. i don't understand why people think they can charge $600 to prune 2 vines and blow out the yard. Business as usual is not the way to do business anymore. Sure, maybe some people have $600 lying around, but most of us don't. Carlos was very respectful, however, which does go a ways. I would hire him again to prune trees only."

"Daniel Soto and his crew are very professional, punctual, and a pleasure to work with! Our yards had built up weeds and overgrowth for many years, and Daniel listened carefully and asked questions because, as he said, he wanted to know what my vision for my yard is. He was very knowledgeable about every plant, tree, and shrub in my yard (and there are a lot of different ones), and communicated very well to make sure I would be happy with the result. Thank you so much to Daniel and crew!"

Small jobs welcome

"I cannot say enough how professional, trustworthy, respectful, hand-working not to mention efficient and an excellent job Carlos did! Carlos power-washed my deck, patio and 12-foot sliding windows and doors. He also windexed the glass enclosure on the deck. Now I wish I took a picture! Next time I hire Carlos, I definitely will. Highly recommend Carlos to everyone with no hesitation."

Lawns questions, answered by experts

Dormant seasons like fall and winter are the best times to dig up plants, including holly bushes. Plants aren’t growing during these seasons, so the removal process goes a lot quicker. Consider hiring a landscaping team to handle holly bush removal during the cold-weather months for off-season pricing deals, too.

As we know, leaving dog poop on your lawn can cause patching and even death of your grass. But, even if your yard is hardscaped, leaving dog poop lying around is unhygienic and smelly, and it’s an invitation for kids to trail it into the house on the soles of their shoes.

The easiest way to remove bushes is first to cut the bush down. You may need to use a handsaw, pruning shears, or a chainsaw for thicker branches. Once you’ve removed most of the branches, you can then cut the base of the shrub as low to the ground as you can get. Then, with a shovel, dig around until you expose the roots. Dig out the roots, being careful not to leave any roots in the soil.

This depends on how many leaves there are. Mowing over dry and crisp leaves with a bagging attachment saves most homeowners a lot of time. If you have a smaller lawn and few leaves to mulch, you can put the leaves into a stand-alone mulcher resembling a wood chipper and collect the mulch from a hopper. This prevents having to do multiple passes with a mower.

How often you should maintain your yard depends on your climate and what season it is. A general rule of thumb is to maintain a lawn height of three inches.
