"I discussed my problem with Anna (reception) and Dan (a technician). Dan was able to tell me the possibilities for fixing my low vacuum problem. I dropped the tank (where the dirt is collected) and carefully felt the U-shaped gasket as he instructed me. I replaced the tank and carefully attached it. The low vacuum problem is fixed. I called Anna and reported my success. If a tech is in my area, (note we are 15-20 miles away) she will call me for a complete inspection."

"Greg is a very nice and thorough guy. His customer service standards are extremely high...something we don't see anymore. Kyle (the gentlemen who actually performed the install) is a friendly and efficient person. I would highly recommend The Wire Guys."

"David has now helped me twice and I cannot recommend him enough, he's wonderful. If you need more than one person, I know he can also bring more people if the project requires it. For me, he installed a new faucet and water filter perfectly and his pricing was fair. Next, he helped me finish a complicated instruction murphy/wall bed. The first contractor I hired rushed the project at the beginning so I stopped working with him and David completed the project perfectly. He also helped me hang a bunch of items (my building has metal studs) and everything is secure to the walls and looks wonderful. Seriously, do not hesitate to give him a call, he's honest, kind and does great work, what more could you want?"

Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

The cost to install a central vacuum cleaner system averages about $1,600, ranging from $1,100 to $2,200, depending on the size of the system, add-on features, your home’s location, and age of the system. Accessibility to running lines and other equipment can also impact the project cost. Consult a central vacuum cleaner installation company for an accurate estimate of your installation cost.

No. Only the hose or the attachments are portable in a central vacuum system. A portable vacuum is a standalone model like a stick, canister, or upright. A central vacuum system is defined by a central power unit, which is installed in one place like an AC unit, and the connected network of piping to funnel the suction.

Experienced professionals don’t usually need to take down drywall to install the central vacuum. They are experienced in working in the tight spaces between walls and in crawl spaces to minimize any damage. The only drywall changes should be the holes cut for the new outlets. However, home design, existing plumbing, and other factors may require some modification. An estimate from a professional contractor should include information if any changes need to be made.

For the average-size house, a central vacuum installation usually takes one day of work by a team of professionals. Large houses may take two or more days. But if you are planning on a DIY project, it’s likely to take much longer. We suggest getting a few estimates for a project this big and fully understanding all the requirements before you make a decision about installation. Certain parts of your house may not be usable during the installation, and you may want to make other plans.
