"Mr. Elder is the owner of AAA Fireplaces and did not preform the cleaning project his employee Ron did the actual cleaning. Ron was on time, friendly, knowledgable and ready to work. He got right to the task at hand and was able to answer all my questions regarding our 25 year old Lopi insert. He spread tarps to protect the surroundings and took every precautions regarding ashes. He removed the stove carefuly and cleaned it thoroughly and did not seem to mind me observing his work. Based on my experiance I would recomend AAA to anyone,"

"Excellent work - fast turn-around. From start to finish a pleasant experience. Very helpful during the design phase, and the installation crew was outstanding. Came out BETTER (20x30 patio, in pavers) than I anticipated, which is always a great surprise. I HIGHLY recommend."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Backdraft is usually caused by a ventilation or pressure problem. To stop it, you need to replace the air your fireplace draws out through the chimney, so open a window to try and increase the airflow. Sometimes turning on a kitchen or bathroom exhaust fan can help, but they could also be the cause of the backdraft depending on the air pressure inside your home. You may need to install a makeup air system (MUAS) or chimney fan.

If you have a gas fireplace, you should be able to see a vent exiting the fireplace directly to the outside of your home. You may also see gas lines leading to the fireplace. If the firebox in the fireplace is completely empty, it’s a wood-burning fireplace. There should be no burners or igniters in the fireplace.

Although no heating appliance can be entirely risk-free, a fireplace insert is considered a safer alternative to a traditional open fireplace, thanks to their enclosed design. With a sealed combustion chamber, a fireplace insert effectively reduces the risk of sparks and embers escaping into the room, minimizing the chance of an accidental fire.

Additionally, an insert comes equipped with various safety features, such as tempered glass doors that create a barrier between the flames and the surrounding space. This enhances both safety and energy efficiency by preventing heat loss. As an added bonus, many inserts are designed to meet strict safety standards that ensure proper ventilation and combustion.

How you stop your fireplace from smoking depends on the cause. Sometimes it’s as simple as opening the damper. Other times, you need to battle air pressure. The best course of action is to ensure proper ventilation, whether that means opening a door or a window; avoid building a large fire, which produces more smoke; and use seasoned hardwoods, which produce less smoke than other types of wood. If the issue persists, call a pro ASAP.

Even though ventless fireplaces are safe to use overall, you shouldn’t let them run for more than a few hours per day. It’s also important to make sure the room with the fireplace is well-ventilated. If not, the water vapor from the fire could increase the humidity levels in your home, potentially resulting in mold growth.
