"Working with Irit and Raul and their team was a dream. From beginning to end, they treated our pool build as if it they were doing it for themselves. They took meticulous care with our property, including making it possible for our dog and toddler to continue to safely use the yard throughout construction, and cleaning dust and debris from the site daily. Their attention to detail was evident from the very beginning, when they cleaned up permit filing errors made by our previous contractor and engineer. They provided clear and accurate estimates and cost breakdowns. Their team showed up reliably 5 days a week (and sometimes Saturday’s!) and there was visible progress made every single day— it was clear they were moving along efficiently, and when Raul walked us through nuts and bolts of the process, we saw that he was doing the highest quality of work (even the company we eventually hired to maintain the pool commented on how well it was built!). We started the pool build intending to do the landscaping at another time, but we saw quickly that Irit’s expertise would elevate the whole project, and contracted Aqua Care for landscaping as well. Most outdoor hot tubs last between five and 20 years, excluding inflatable tubs, which last five to seven years. High-quality, maintained tubs can last decades, while low-quality, poorly maintained tubs may not hit five years. A good warranty, professional installation, quality materials, and proper maintenance will help a tub last longer.

To refill a hot tub after winter, start by opening up the tub and giving it a quick cleaning. If you use antifreeze, drain out the water then grab a hose and thoroughly clean the tub shell out, spraying water into each jet of the tub. 

Reconnect the hot tub and turn the power back on. When it’s time to fill the tub again, insert the hose into the filter well (if available). Avoid trapping too much air in the water lines, which can cause the pump to lock up when it starts again. Add the necessary chemicals and start the heating process. It will take some time—most of a full day—for the water to heat up again.

The best thing with which to clean a hot tub is whatever the manufacturer recommends; in most cases, this is a gentle surface cleaner and a soft cloth. Recommended hot tub cleaners can include specially formulated cleaning agents, mild dish soap, baking soda, vinegar, or diluted bleach. For your hot tub exterior, choose wood or vinyl cleaner (depending on the casing material).

You should never use household cleaning products, harsh chemicals such as undiluted bleach or acids, or abrasive cleansers or cloths, as these can scratch or etch your hot tub’s coating or shell and cause permanent damage.

You should put chlorine in your hot tub on a regular basis. To keep bacteria away, keep the chlorine level in your hot tub at between 3-5 mg/l, which may mean you need to add chlorine daily or at least every two to three days. Don’t add chlorine to your hot tub water more than once per day.

Most hot tubs use between 1,500 watts and 6,000 watts of electricity, depending on the voltage of your heater. 120-volt heaters tip toward the low end, and 240-volt heaters tip toward the high end. Expect your pump to add another 1,500 watts. Newer, energy-efficient models use less electricity, while older models use more.
