"I used to perform most of my own pool maintenance including chemicals, filter cleaning and fixing equipment such as pool sweepers so I understand what goes into a pool service. Unfortunately with an ailing back and some long work hours, I hired Luis to take over my DE filter cleaning. That was 8 years ago and since he has replaced 2 different pool pumps and installed a new DE filter. I cannot be happier with the service that he provides. Luis is a hard working, honest individual but most importantly he has expert knowledge and deep experience with pool maintenance and repairs. I highly recommend R1 Pools as your next pool company."

"Was having an issue with an algae bloom that I could not seem to get rid of with the chemicals from home depot. Had a neighbor recommend me Wells Springs Warden Spa and they were able to get someone out to my property the very next day. Emilio was great, very knowledgeable and professional. Going on two weeks from initial service and my pool looks great!"

"I have the privilege of having Jeff Grossman as my pool man with Kraken pool service & he is terrific. Takes super good care of my pool, spends time doing the pool cleaning, getting zillion of leaves from neighbors Oak tree out of pool while pool sweeps being repaired. He's kind, patient, caring & does a fantastic job above & beyond. Thank you so very much, Jeff!!!!"

Pool and Spa Servicing questions, answered by experts

Where you drain a hot tub largely depends on local regulations, but you must not drain chemically treated water where it can damage the environment. Direct the water toward a sanitary sewer drain that will take it to a treatment facility. If your lawn has a dedicated drainage area that’s free from plants and foundations, you can likely drain it there. Avoid storm drains, as the hot tub water will enter waterways and could hurt aquatic life. Likewise, do not pour it out directly on any public land or where it can get into your neighbors’ property.

Yes. If you test the water and the alkalinity is too low, you can raise it by adding an alkalinity increaser, which likely came with your hot tub’s chemical kit. In a pinch, you can use baking soda to raise the hot tub’s alkalinity. Raising the alkalinity will prevent the hot tub water from becoming too acidic.

When your hot tub is not in use, you can keep it at a constant soaking temperature of around 100 degrees Fahrenheit. For extended periods of non-use, you can lower the temperature by about five degrees. This slight decrease makes it easier and quicker to heat back up to a desirable level when you're ready to use it again. Additionally, you might consider lowering the temperature by a couple of degrees during the summer to avoid feeling overheated.

Hot tubs don’t necessarily add value to a home—but they don’t take it away either. It depends on the potential buyer. A well-landscaped in-ground hot tub is attractive to buyers who prioritize relaxation and fun. Others would rather not deal with the maintenance.

Most hot tub motors can last between five and 10 years; however, hot tub motors can burn out sooner if the hot tub water is not maintained or if the motors themselves are not maintained or protected from the elements. Since hot tub motors (also referred to as spa pumps) power the jets and circulate the water, they are important for the functioning of your spa. Buying a quality motor, keeping the hot tub filter clean, and keeping the wet end of the motor wet and the dry end dry can help them last longer.
