"Contacted Eddie last minute in need of a large bin for the weekend. He managed to make it happen. The bin was delivered and picked up by a very pleasant and helpful driver. The bin is clean and in great condition. Eddie was easy to reach and if he does not answer, he will return your call quickly. If you are renting a bin for the first time like me, inquire on the restrictions of what can be disposed into the bin. I will need to rent a bin again in a few week and will definitely use Nu-Way Bin Rentals."

Waste Removal Services questions, answered by experts

While a rented dumpster can handle a wide variety of materials, there are significant restrictions on what is allowed. Generally, you can dispose of most non-hazardous household junk, yard waste, and construction debris.

Accepted items typically include:

  • Furniture, carpets, old linens, and toys

  • Wood and yard debris

  • Small appliances and excess trash

  • Renovation waste like old finishes, building debris, and roofing materials (unless they contain lead paint or asbestos)

However, you cannot put toxic, flammable, or hazardous materials in a dumpster. Prohibited items almost always include:

  • Paint, gasoline, oil, and other fuels

  • Household cleaners and other chemicals

  • Electronics, batteries, and tires

  • Refrigerators, hot water tanks, and medical waste

Since regulations can vary by location and company, it is essential to check with your dumpster rental provider for their specific list of accepted and prohibited items before you begin.

The items thrown into a dumpster either go to a landfill, recycling center, or a center for disposing of specialized materials. Your dumpster's destination will depend on your agreement with the company and the services they offer. If you choose to fill your dumpster with a mixture of landfill-approved items, it's important to keep recyclable and hazardous materials out of the pile.

Although plastic and polystyrene foam are made from similar materials, Styrofoam tends to be more harmful to the environment because it is more difficult to recycle than other plastics. Therefore, Styrofoam ends up in landfills and will likely take 500 years or more to begin decomposition.

While leaves won’t fully decompose over winter, they will still continue to decompose, just more slowly than usual.

Ammonia can dissipate in minutes, hours, or even weeks. It depends on how heavily concentrated it is and the size of the space it’s exposed to. Always err on the side of caution when dealing with ammonia. Call your local poison control center or police department if you’re unsure what to do.
