"Arthur and one othe person did a great job. They worked hard and quickly to clear all the weeds and trim the large bushes. They then cleaned up everything really well. I'm really pleased with the work they did and would definitely hire them again."

Customers say: Quality work

"Austyn is very talented at operating the escalating machinery. He also is particularly accurate at his grading and uses suitable tools for checking and planning the approach.. These are the reasons I gave him the high marks. Also he is quite a nice fellow. Rob Grandfield Project was finished January 2024 Larkin Valley Hills, Watsonville/Aptos"

"I can’t say enough great things about Higuera Excavation and Grading! During the last big storm here in the Monterey area, we suddenly discovered a serious leak around our door. Water was pouring in, and we were honestly panicking about the potential damage and cost. I called my friend Gary Higuera, and he showed up at a moment’s notice — while the storm was still going on! Gary jumped right in, quickly diagnosed the issue, and fixed the problem before it turned into a much bigger (and much more expensive) disaster. His pricing absolutely could not be beat. Thanks to his quick response and expertise, he literally saved us thousands of dollars in potential repairs. It’s rare to find someone who is not only skilled and professional but also genuinely cares about helping people when they need it most. We are so incredibly grateful for his help and highly recommend Higuera Excavation and Grading to anyone in the Monterey area. Thank you, Gary — you’re a lifesaver!"

"I have not been billed yet. However the service was as promised, on time, very pleasant. They checked the entire sprinkler system, and performed the repairs. They repaired a leaking stand pipe too."

"I was very impressed with the quality of work that was done. Mr. Blanco has a style of professionalism that is all his own...I was in need of a bathroom remodeling, and was referred to RB. On time , had no problems throughout the job, from changing out all fixtures to replacing tub and shower, and sink. A complete revamp done to my bathroom! would definitely recommend RB to anyone who is looking for someone that knows how to do a job right. I'll even go as far as giving an extra star ... that's how satisfied I am with the work that was done. Thank you once again RB !"

"BG Construction was a pleasure to work with. Price was very fair for the work performed and the owner was very flexible on changes during the project. Great customer service and he showed up everyday at the time he said he would be here. I would recommend BG if you need any home improvement project that requires land clearing or digging. Hy"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Depth is not a qualifying component of evacuation. Any human-made cut, cavity, or depression in the earth’s surface is considered excavation. The hole from excavation can be any size, shape, or depth. Excavation is used to create foundations, reservoirs, drainage ditches, and roads. Long, narrow excavations are called trenches and are often used for underground utilities.

Consultation with the local government helps identify necessary permits, avoid project delays or legal issues, and protect project integrity.

You can dig 60 to 80 linear feet by hand per day depending on the depth. Digging a 100-foot trench by hand will take you two work days, but it can take longer if you have heavy or rocky soil. If you’re digging a deep trench or one that’s over 100 feet, consider renting a mechanical trencher, such as a walk-behind or ride-on, or calling a pro for help.

You can bury underground electrical wire six inches deep—but only if you use a rigid metal electrical conduit. For rigid, non-metallic conduits, bury the wire at least 12 inches deep. If using an underground feeder cable rated for direct burial, you'll need to place it at least 18 inches deep, as it has no conduit for extra protection.

No, fire blight does not survive free in the soil but instead is carried through insects, animals, rain, or wind during the spring. Keep in mind that it can also spread on tools, which is why you should always disinfect them in between cuts.
