"Arthur and one othe person did a great job. They worked hard and quickly to clear all the weeds and trim the large bushes. They then cleaned up everything really well. I'm really pleased with the work they did and would definitely hire them again."

"Excavation work in this area is expensive. But with the right person - Austyn - you get what you pay for. He speeds through jobs efficiently and with attention to detail, offering updates & suggestions along the way. He knows his stuff and how to stick to the budget. I'm planning to have him back to do more work before too long."

Small jobs welcome

"ECO-Concepts was excellent. I started with one idea in mind, although Jed had many great suggestions and my landscaping came out beautiful. They came every day until the job was finished, therefore finished it quickly and on-time. The crew was very efficient, respectful, friendly, and helpful. I would not hesitate to hire them again."

"I have not been billed yet. However the service was as promised, on time, very pleasant. They checked the entire sprinkler system, and performed the repairs. They repaired a leaking stand pipe too."

"I was very impressed with the quality of work that was done. Mr. Blanco has a style of professionalism that is all his own...I was in need of a bathroom remodeling, and was referred to RB. On time , had no problems throughout the job, from changing out all fixtures to replacing tub and shower, and sink. A complete revamp done to my bathroom! would definitely recommend RB to anyone who is looking for someone that knows how to do a job right. I'll even go as far as giving an extra star ... that's how satisfied I am with the work that was done. Thank you once again RB !"

"BG Construction was a pleasure to work with. Price was very fair for the work performed and the owner was very flexible on changes during the project. Great customer service and he showed up everyday at the time he said he would be here. I would recommend BG if you need any home improvement project that requires land clearing or digging. Hy"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The digging depth will depend on the size of the trencher you use. Even smaller units can dig up to 4 feet deep, which is plenty for a DIY job. However, much larger trenchers can reach a depth of 18 feet and are better used by a team of pro contractors, not a single DIYer. As with all home improvement projects, use the right tool for the job and proceed with caution.

Downspouts should be buried at least 5 to 10 feet away from your foundation. This can vary depending on your local building codes, soil type, and property slope. The main goal is to ensure water is directed away from your foundation.

You should dig 3 to 6 inches deep for plastic edging. Dig as wide as you need to fit your plastic edging into it—2 inches is usually sufficient.

There are several different factors that influence how long it takes to excavate. For a foundation, it could take anywhere from three days to three weeks. It can take even longer if you face weather-related delays or an inaccessible site that’s riddled with boulders and rough terrain. It may also take longer if you have clay soil, which is more difficult to dig.

Most states do not require excavation companies to hold specific licenses, but many require at least a contractor’s license. Additionally, heavy equipment operators require a special commercial equipment license to operate machinery required for excavation. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to confirm that an excavation company you’re considering hiring is fully licensed. You should also make sure that the excavation team is fully insured before allowing them to work on your property.
