"I thought part of this deal is a chimney sweep, but they did everything, except that. I called to find out why this particular sweep was not done and was told they don t perform this type of service. So, actually, all I got was a vacuum and cleaning of the fireplace, some important advise and nothing more. Heck. I could have done the vacuuming part, myself and save me the fee of $179. This is a rip-off for the service I got...and I still have a birds nest to contend with...."
"Excellent work laying out a residential landscape using pine bark with river stone walkways lined by larger rocks creating decorative paths for low maintenance, water conserving and weed free garden access. Also pleased with light carpentry to repair fence gates, reinforce some wobbly fence posts, and also hauling away fallen branches and leaves. Always show up on time, review what is to be done and a walk-through afterwards to be sure I'm satisfied with everything. A polite and professional team. Have employed them several times this year, on the recommendation of a friend."
"Very competent and detailed estimate, with a work date set to our schedule very easily. A very cooperative and business-like crew arrived on time and did an excellent job, right to the last detail of cleaning up any fly-away insulation."
"He was quick, communicative, and partnered with me to achieve a vision I was figuring out to redo some really old boxwoods. Gave a clear quote and expectations and gave recommendations through the process which I greatly appreciated. I really enjoyed working with him!"
"The owner was hard to deal with, with a million excuses for almost everything. He didn't seem especially familiar with Angie's List or what the deal was. However, upon prodding, a competent worker did come out and get the fireplace started. He wanted us to pay for transportation from Gilroy + &125/hr. However, finally he took the $99 as promised on Angie's list. More communication needed between Angie's List and vendor."
"Excellent. We replaced a wood burning fireplace with a gas fireplace. We asked the company to see if they could remove the old tile without damaging it, a tricky task requiring some finesse. They managed to do that very well, and we were able to clean the old tile and have them place the tiles around the new fireplace which required a lot of precise cuts to fit the new fireplace size. They did a great job, and replaced/repaired and textured the sheetrock surrounding the fireplace. The workers were very neat and cleaned up everything when they finished. Highly recommended"
"This artist listened to me carefully and created an artist concept for approval. It was perfect. But she made it even better with the incredible attention to detail, color application and skilled artistry. It is an amazing piece or art that was designed precisely for my home. People are just amazed when they see it!"
"This was my first experience in remodeling and working with Nathan Weizmann of Goodfellas. I was very pleased with the work and enjoyed working with Nathan. He was very organized and walked us through how the process works, timelines, city permits and items that we are required to choose and purchase such as tiles, faucets, etc. Nathan was excellent at keeping us updated on the daily objectives and dependancies and he was very responsive when we had questions. We added additional work and had them remodel our two fireplaces. They finished within the time frame that they initially estimated. I would definitely work with Nathan again on future projects. "
Creig has provided services for us for years. Whatever needs doing on a house, he can and does do. He is a skilled electrician, plumber, contractor, etc. He has fixed garage doors, installed new garage door openers, installed lighting indoors and outside, fixed sliding glass doors, fixed plumbing leaks, etc. He comes immediately in case of an emergency to do emergency repairs. He is always very professional, extremely skilled and a real gem. He cleans up thoroughly before leaving. I can't praise him highly enough. He is honest and will tell you truthfully what can/should be done or what can wait. His charges are very reasonable. His work is excellent in every respect.
Pellet stoves are designed to operate quietly, often emitting only a soft hum from the combustion fan and auger. Compared to traditional wood-burning stoves or furnaces, modern pellet stoves are relatively quiet during operation. This minimal noise ensures they can efficiently heat living spaces without causing disruption, making them a preferred choice for those seeking both comfort and peace of mind.
How you stop your fireplace from smoking depends on the cause. Sometimes it’s as simple as opening the damper. Other times, you need to battle air pressure. The best course of action is to ensure proper ventilation, whether that means opening a door or a window; avoid building a large fire, which produces more smoke; and use seasoned hardwoods, which produce less smoke than other types of wood. If the issue persists, call a pro ASAP.
Yes, in most cases, you can remove a fireplace while keeping the chimney. This process requires sealing the chimney at the bottom where it connected to the fireplace and capping it at the top. It is essential to consult a chimney professional or inspection specialist beforehand. They will need to determine if the chimney's structural integrity is sufficient to remain safely in place without the support of the fireplace.
Yes, if your gas fireplace has a flue, you typically need to open it when using the fireplace. Although gas fireplaces don’t produce the type of smoke and soot that wood-burning ones do, they still release combustion gasses like carbon monoxide. Opening the flue ensures these gasses safely exit your home through the chimney. Not all gas fireplaces need a chimney, however. Always check the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific gas fireplace model, as some newer models may have different ventilation requirements.
Yes, you can use an existing chimney with a wood-burning stove if it meets specific requirements. The stove’s vent pipe size must be compatible with the size of your chimney flue. Your contractor can tell you whether your chimney is suitable for installation.
