"Super, The office manager was courteous and made a full explanation of when the contractor would inspect and when and how the estimate would be provided. They sent an itemized and detailed estimate of repairs that included a breakdown of labor and materials. We were able to select what items were most critical and were given contact information to discuss with the contractor. The contractor called promptly and we made adjustments. He was flexible in every respect and we were happy with the work."

Plumbing Handymen questions, answered by experts

Water main breaks are relatively common, particularly in areas with older infrastructure. The frequency of breaks depends on factors such as the age, material, and size of the water main pipes, weather conditions, and the overall maintenance of the water system. Older cities with outdated pipes are more prone to frequent breaks, while newer communities struggle less with this particular issue.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a leaky faucet that’s dripping at a rate of one drip per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons of water per year. This is one reason why it’s important to fix a leaky faucet sooner rather than later.

A shower diverter and a shower valve serve different functions, though some modern models combine them into a single unit. A shower diverter is a specific type of valve that directs the flow of water between different fixtures, such as from a tub spout to a showerhead or handheld sprayer. In contrast, a shower valve (often called a mixing valve) controls the water temperature and turns the shower on and off. A shower system can have both a diverter valve and a mixing valve to manage its functions.

If you are in the market for a new showerhead, consider investing in a metal option rather than plastic. Metal showerheads are more durable and long-lasting, and bacteria tend to survive and grow better on plastic. Besides the materials, what works best for you will depend on personal preference. Maybe you would prefer a showerhead with as many settings as possible, or you would like a handheld one.

Most faucets come with a rubber or plastic gasket that prevents leaks—but that’s not always the case. If your faucet doesn’t come with a gasket or it’s leaking, use a caulk gun to seal the gaps and prevent water damage.
