This may come down to personal preference, but it’s generally best to paint the ceiling before you paint the walls. Why? Painting the ceiling can be more physically demanding, and painting the ceiling last may result in drips or splatters that would mess up freshly painted walls. Then, you can grab the seal and pop it off the top of the paint can. Depending on the strength of the seal, you may even be able to remove the seal with just your hands by pulling upwards.

You should not mix ceiling paint with wall paint. The results will be unpredictable, and you might end up with a finish that doesn’t perform well on either surface. For example, the flatness of the ceiling paint may hamper the durability of the wall paint. It’s best to use each type of paint as intended to get the best look and more longevity.

Painting over polyurethane without sanding is not advisable. Sanding, followed by priming, is pivotal in ensuring proper adhesion of the new paint. Sanding creates a rough surface that allows the primer to adhere firmly, which helps paint cure correctly, providing a long-lasting and smooth finish. Neglecting thorough sanding, followed by a paint primer, could lead to the paint not adhering effectively, causing peeling or uneven application.

Whether or not you should paint your interior doors is really up to you. If you want a more natural, rustic appearance, consider staining your doors instead of painting. Note that this is often only possible for solid-core doors. If you’re finishing a hollow-core door, these often come pre-primed and are meant to receive a coat of paint before going up in your home.
