"I'm satisfied with the work done but do feel the price was a bit on the high side. The only thing I regret was that we had a miscommunication on the tv installation part. I misunderstood and thought they could help with actually putting my stereo system together with TV, dvd player. Apparently, they meant only that they can put away the wires through the wall if the wires were preset/prehooked already on the back of the systems (I just moved into a new home and they were all disconnected).  I should have clarified that with Jim on the day he came to do the estimate because I thought it was a great deal compared to geek squad (the quote I was given) for the tv installation part.

"The workers, a husband and wife who spoke very little if any English, were OUTSTANDING! They took pride in the several layers needed to repair the long, rectangular hole they had to repair. The repaired hole was as closely matched in texture and color to the existing wall as anyone could accomplish!"

"Cesar did an excellent job of painting the inside of my house from the ceiling, walls to the baseboards. He was reliable, helpful, and a pleasure to have around . Cesar is honest, trustworthy, and cares about the quality of his work and making sure that his clients are happy and satisfied. I can’t talk highly enough about him.I would definitely recommend him and have already done so."

"The owner of CVCM is an honest guy. I needed a repair done to my back wall. He told me how much supplies were going to be but there were extra. He returned it and gave me back the money, something I appreciate. In the past when I hired workers they wouldn't use all the material. It would be left in my yard or taken with them. I would hire him again."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, to build a retaining wall, a permit is required. Similarly, any repairs or modifications to an existing retaining wall require permits. If the planned wall measures higher than 4 feet, most municipalities require designs and permits come through a licensed engineer. In some locations, if the wall is shorter than 4 feet, a permit may not be required. For the requirements in your area, contact your local government.

Costs depend on material type, labor rates, and additional features like decorative finishes or reinforcement.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.
