A small sump pump running infrequently uses an average of 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month. The average cost for electricity is $0.171 per kWh. The size and use frequency affect how much electricity it uses. Sump pumps average one-third to one horsepower (hp) motors. One hp is equal to 745.7 watts. Watts multiplied by the time your pump is running divided by 1,000 equals your average kWh. Multiply kWh by your average cost of electricity. In areas with high rain or a marsh basin, the average cost can be as high as $15-$25 a month.

If you move your fridge upright, you can turn it on right away without letting it settle. If the fridge was laying down during transport, check its manual to find out how long you should let it settle before turning it on again. Usually, it’s safest to wait about 24 hours. If you don’t allow the refrigerant and compressor oil to settle, you may end up needing refrigerator repair.

In some locations, regular sanitation will pick up large appliances at no cost, but in others, you’ll need to pay for “special pickup” or “bulk pickup.” While the cost of these services is usually less than hiring an appliance removal company, it’s still worth considering because they will disconnect the appliance and get it out of your home. This appliance removal service is especially worth it multiple doorways or flights of stairs leading from the appliance to the exterior.

If your microwave is on the fritz and you suspect the fuse has blown, you can check it to confirm it’s the source of the problem. Start by disassembling the panel and carefully checking the fuse filament or ceramic components. If your microwave uses a glass fuse, you’ll likely see discoloration and a melted filament. If your microwave contains a ceramic fuse, you’ll need to use a multimeter continuity tester to check if there’s continuity.
