"RYAN AND HIS ASSISTANT WERE ENJOYABLE TO HAVE AROUND FOR A WEEK. THEY WERE POLITE AND COURTEOUS. RYAN IS VERY KNOWLEDGABLE WHEN IT COMES TO TILE LAYOUT. MY COUNTERS ARE BEAUTIFUL. I HAVE A VERY OLD HOUSE AND IT WASN'T AN EASY JOB, BUT THEY WERE UP TO THE CHALLENGE. EVERYTHING, FROM START TO FINISH, WAS DONE IN A PROFFESIONAL MANNER. I THOUGHT HIS ESTIMATE FOR ALL THE WORK HE HAD TO DO WAS VERY FAIR. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO OTHERS THAT NEED WORK DONE. ALSO, IF I HAVE TILE PROJECTS IN THE FUTURE I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO HIRE HIM ALL OVER AGAIN."

"We discussed designs for our family room. She was easy to work with and everything was done through email. We sent Jill details about the room and photos. She understood things well, sent us back ideas and a few room plans. We didn’t use her ideas but they were valuable for us for other perspectives. The deal was exactly what we expected."

"No more leaks or missing tiles. He found a reputable, reasonably priced supply store to lower my costs. Very reasonable for the great value I received. I liked the work he did so much that I have used him for other work I've needed on the interior of my home. Very hard worker, wastes no time and very knowledgeable."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all best tile for a dog shower. Consider your budget, tile durability, aesthetics, and, most importantly, practicality. Avoid tiles your dog will slide around on. Pebbles are a great non-slip option, but are pricey and tricky to install. Glass might look modern, but it’s not scratch-resistant. Small, floor-rated ceramic or porcelain tiles are economical and have many grout lines that make the surface more slip-resistant. Pick a matte finish rather than a shiny tile if you want it to hide stray mud and hairs better.

Generally speaking, it is better to cut tile wet when using a fast-moving wet saw to reduce dust and chipping. However, tile can be cut dry when using just about any cutting tool. Dry cutting will result in a bigger mess and may increase the risk of chipping or cracking, but if you’re just making small cuts, dry cutting is a safe and viable option. Cutting dry also means you can apply tile grout sooner, so it’s better for rushed projects.

Glazed ceramic tiles don’t need to be sealed because the glazing already offers some protection against moisture. Unglazed ceramic tiles need to be sealed to keep the porous tile safe from moisture and staining. However, both types of tile can benefit from sealing. Sealant can make the tiles easier to keep clean and offer more resistance to water, spills, and stains.
