"Did an excellent job - on time, professional, quick.  Advised of other repairs we may want to consider in the future but they weren't critical or urgent.  They didn't push anything but were just keeping us informed.
What I really like about Poco is I have called them about many things relating to the pool solar, which they handled, and our electrical solar, which they did not.  Regardless of which one I was asking about their customer service has always been outstanding.  They have given me advice on what to look for and ask other contractors about for services they don't provide.  All of their personnel, whether on the phone or the actual service providers, are unfailingly polite, helpful, and friendly.  I would highly recommend them and will definitely keep them as our service provider.

"I have used About Green twice in the past 3 years. Our backyard has a lot of trees and very tall tree-type hedges. Since it was a major part of the reason we bought the home, we want to maintain the health of the landscaping back there. Vince and his team scaled and thinned/trimmed a couple very tall redwood trees, removed an unhealthy leaning tree and trimmed/maintained many other trees on our property. Vince is a pleasure to work with and very friendly. He is extremely knowledgeable in all of the trees that we have and suggests what service to do on each type of tree based on his knowledge of each. He explains it very clearly to us who don't know much about the subject. His work is quality and his goal is 100% customer satisfaction. On this last visit, they spent a few hours trimming a tree-type hedge and when I came home from work, I wanted it around 3 feet lower. Even though it meant repeating the work for a few hours, Vince did it without any argument. To me, that was a true test of customer satisfaction. They complete the work in a timely manner, over a 2 day period. They cleaned up the yard like new and disposed of a ton of trimmings (never seen so much in my life). I never even consider another tree service besides About Green. I plan to have him come out after summer to suggest some landscaping ideas as I haven't used him for that before.."

"We worked with Ali (sales manager) and Tony (project manager), who took the time to design a project that made sense for our property and our budget, made a number of suggestions and recommendations and were never pushy or tried to "sell" us on something. The crew really went above and beyond to provide top quality workmanship and overall we were in very good hands. Highly recommended!"

"Horizon is great. Our sales guy was Craig, and we have enjoyed working with him. He came to measure the sunlight on the roof and talk to us about the systems, and the new tax credits available. He came back in a few days with several scenarios. We ended up choosing a bigger system that he recommended, because we expect to buy an electric car within two years. The first project was installing the 40 Sunpower 230 watt PV panels on our garage, along with two inverters (one for the 20 panels on the front, and other for the 20 panels on the back) and a solar monitoring system (remote display unit in the house and data uploaded to a web site that graphs our production). It took a few weeks and a little back and forth with San Mateo County, but the permit was approved and the system was installed over two days at the end of December, and the new Net Meter from PG&E installed at the beginning of January. The crew was friendly, professional, and efficient. The total cost of the system was $72,000 but would be eligible for a PG&E rebate of $12,000, so they only charged us for $60,000 and would get the rebate directly from PG&E. They also indicated that we would be eligible for an $18,000 tax credit on our 2009 taxes, bringing the cost to $42,000 after we see the tax credit in April 2010. The second project was to install solar water panels to heat the pool. We waited until the spring for this project, and had to remove a tree that was shading the roof where we wanted to place them. There was back and forth with the County again for the permit. (They are concerned about the structure of the roof and needed pictures for both jobs.) We ended up with 7 panels (4 feet x 12 feet each) because that was all that would fit. (We hope that with our cover keeping the heat in at night this will get our pool into the high 80s.) Here's how the systems are doing: In the winter our panels were producing about 15 kWh per day. In the summer about 55kWh per day. Our pool, only running the pump until 2pm has gotten the pool to 82 degrees, so we've extended the pump to 5pm to pick up a bit more heat. (It is a tradeoff when you have solar power because 1pm to 7pm is the most expensive for electricity.) You only pay for your electricity once a year after you switch to Solar Net Metering. In the winter we were buying electricity, in the summer we are selling more than we use. Hopefully we'll end up with a minimal bill at the end of a year. We were very happy with Horizon. They are great with communication via email and phone. Always happy to answer questions. The work looks great. When we had an issue with the monitoring system they were very prompt to respond. Horizon came to us highly recommended from a friend who used them."

Pool and Spa Servicing questions, answered by experts

You can and should use a hose to fill a hot tub. There shouldn’t be anything special about the hose other than it shouldn’t be damaged. Kinks or leaks could slow down the filling process. Attach the hose to the nearest spigot and get the water flowing.

How often you change the water in your swim spa depends on how often you use it. Most manufacturers recommend changing the water every three to six months. If you use your swim spa throughout the seasons, it’s a good idea to set up a quarterly deep cleaning schedule. The ideal instructions should be in the owner’s manual.

Biofilm growth can cause a hot tub to feel slimy. Hot tub biofilm is a slimy substance that’s typically due to natural contaminants like makeup, soaps, skin oils, deodorants, or lotions. A hot tub can also have a slimy interior or slimy water if the tub’s filters are old or damaged, or if the hot tub isn’t properly cleaned. You should drain your hot tub, wipe away any slimy residue, then refill the water and use a spa purge product that prevents the buildup of biofilm.

To refill a hot tub after winter, start by opening up the tub and giving it a quick cleaning. If you use antifreeze, drain out the water then grab a hose and thoroughly clean the tub shell out, spraying water into each jet of the tub.

Reconnect the hot tub and turn the power back on. When it’s time to fill the tub again, insert the hose into the filter well (if available). Avoid trapping too much air in the water lines, which can cause the pump to lock up when it starts again. Add the necessary chemicals and start the heating process. It will take some time—most of a full day—for the water to heat up again.

If you want to have a chemical-free spa, or if you are wondering how to keep your hot tub clean naturally, there are several options. Some individuals choose to run their hot tub without treatment at all and simply clean it more often (although you risk bacteria, fungi, and algae growth if you take this route); others use natural products like vinegar or Borax. Ozone, ultraviolet light, and electrolysis systems are also eco-friendly ways to have a clean hot tub without chemicals. Saltwater hot tubs are popular with people who are sensitive to chlorine, bromine, and other traditional hot tub chemicals.
