"A fantastic experience from start to finish, BGL transformed our vague intentions into concrete form. We needed a soil and grass lawn converted to a rock garden with undemanding but beautiful flora. An adjacent ramp and slab needed to be replaced to correct their inclines. BGL rapidly produced a striking design and then enacted it rapidly and thoroughly. In addition to the concrete work, stone walkways were placed and a drip irrigation system was installed and integrated."

"Initially all was going well. The Project Manager (no longer with them) was great to work with and their crew were consistent. Demolition was on time, everything looked great and appeared to be great until completion. I had no idea how bad it is to have a contractor sub contract out for everything, i.e. tile, plumbing, HVAC and painting. That's when the trouble began. Deliveries of items were pushed back due to holidays where they moved things around to meet their deadline, such as painting the house before the carpet was installed and other essential items were done that should have been pushed back. I didn't think this was an issue until you saw the quality of work. They rushed! For example, the painters did not prep; did not smooth surfaces before painting or remove shelving or tape some recess lights before painting which left one crappy job that will cost me to have redone since they refused to bring the painters back out to fix their work. My ceilings texture was goopy and uneven then just painted over to include all texture drips on walls and baseboards! My shower valves were installed upside down which lead to having to open a wall to sauter the pipes to make hot / cold water to deliver in the correct position. The toilet upstairs was not installed correctly and pipes were not cleared at the end of the project which resulted in a brand new flooded kitchen only 60 days after move in! (Brother and Brother did take care of this immediately). They promised new baseboards upstairs and swear they did, yet they look the exact same and still crooked in all corners like the old ones. The also didn't even ask me what kind I wanted. Then add they were on prior to carpet install, then painted over, and now am stuck with baseboards to high above my carpet and will have to pay out of pocket to have lowered and walls repainted. My issues go on where they have come out to fix some work, but I am not their priority and the work is minimal. They don't like having to fix their sub contractors work. In the end, I am disappointed with the quality of work that I was left with."

Concrete Mudjacking questions, answered by experts

There is no real alternative to underpinning, although mudjacking and polyjacking are other repair methods that can add support from underneath your foundation. Rather than placing supportive piers under your structure, these involve pumping a material under your slab to lift a sunken section back into its original position. Polyjacking, in particular, is sometimes a suitable solution for stabilization issues under slab foundations, but underpinning is often accepted as the best and most permanent solution.

Pros often use mudjacking or polyurethane foam injection to level a sunken concrete patio. Both methods lift the slab by filling voids beneath it. After properly compacting the soil beneath it to prevent future settling, the concrete may need to be removed and re-poured for severe sinking.

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.

Concrete leveling is absolutely worth it if you have sunken concrete slabs and want to restore them to level, especially if the slab is part of your home foundation. Concrete leveling is less than half the price of replacing concrete sidewalks, patios, walkways, and pool decks, and it’s about a quarter of the cost of replacing a foundation. If you also treat the underlying problem, it can be a worthwhile and permanent solution.

Mudjacking can be an expensive foundation repair process, but in many cases, it’s well worth the investment. This is especially true if you’re lifting a portion of sunken foundation slab back into place. In that case, mudjacking can help avoid major structural damage and even home collapse by restoring the integrity of your structure with minimally invasive procedures. Mudjacking a concrete patio, walkway, or sidewalk can be worthwhile because it removes tripping hazards and makes your outdoor area more aesthetically appealing.
