"Del Mar Landscaping is a top notch outfit. They do everything from start to finish. On time and the crew is amazing. The job took a total of two weeks and the crew cleaned up every day. Would recommend their services to anyone that wants a professional company that takes pride in their work. We get daily compliments of how great our house now looks."

"We have a fairly large home (about 5,500 sq ft) and a sizable yard (over 1000 square feet) in a gated community.  We wanted to replace our water-guzzling lawn with paving stones.  The HOA is really particular about vendors but Pacific Outdoor Living surely lived up to the standards of the HOA.  I can't even begin to describe how wonderful the experience was with Pacific Outdoor Living.  We received a bid from another Angie's List vendor which was twice as high as Pacific Outdoor Living.  John Durso from the company came to our home, estimated the job and began the work right away.  They have over 100 people working for this company and they are ALL professional.  I would say that on any given day, we had a crew of about 5-10 guys.  Start to finish, the job was done in about two-and-a-half weeks. They work quickly, effectively and treat each stone as if it was a piece of art.  Seriously, I have never seen this much care taken for any landscaping job.  There was always a foreman or supervisor on site and when I could not be at the house, the supervisor on site that day would text me photos and if there was any question at all about where to put something, they asked.  The communication skills of this company rivals any that I have dealt with anywhere.  For all this professionalism, these people were HALF the cost and at least TWICE the speed that the other vendor would have been.  And they have incredible teamwork...are super-organized; one shift follows another without skipping a beat.  The owner came by the job site a couple of times and he had some suggestions that were really helpful including ideas about cutting out some roots from a neighbor's yard that could, over years, push up the paving stones.  Brilliant.  They also were very patient and respectful working with our gardener to make sure that he understood the changes that would be happening with our sprinkler system.  They made it their business to be there when the gardener had availability to discuss all this, not the other way around.  I also had another mason (someone I've used for years) build a new BBQ island and Pacific Outdoor Living made sure that he had gas and electrical lines routed perfectly to make that job (that Pacific Outdoor Living had nothing to do with) go perfectly.  Now that the job is completed, I can honestly say that I could not be happier and heartily recommend Pacific Outdoor Living."

"Let me preface this by saying this company is timely and willing to please.  Unfortunately I had disappointing results, yet they handled it appropriately.

I contacted them for an estimate because of their good reviews on Angie?s List. I wanted them to remove 50% of old decomposed granite and replace it with new granite. They suggested that prior to hiring them that I go to see a newly completed decomposed granite project in Woodland Hills as an example of their work, which I did.  I liked the results very much, telling them that I wanted the same finish and firmness of that project, especially since that family had an active dog and I do as well.  I specifically requested that they use the gas operated tampering machine for my job as they did for that job in Woodland Hills.  They understood and agreed to what I wanted and I hired them.

Sadly the results were not the same as Woodland Hills. There were/are issues with little loose decomposed rocks throughout my yard.  I have to sweep the little rocks with a broom every few days.  I certainly did not expect perfection by any means, but I did expect that the results would be very close to Woodland Hills.

They?d used a grass roller to tamp the decomposed granite as opposed to the gas operated tampering machine that they used in Woodland Hills.  I was home; the machine was not used.   I heard it for a few minutes in the beginning of the day, then saw them working on it. I think it was having problems.  In speaking with the company where they purchased the granite, I was told that issues such as mine are because the grass roller is not enough to do the correct job, that the tampering machine should have been used.
I'm left to wonder why if there were problems with the machine, did they not go out and rent one for the day.

The owner, Cipriano, agreed that the decomposed granite was not right and offered to re-do the job, promising to use the tampering machine this time.   I was also offered the option of a refund.  I chose to accept the refund, which I did receive within a few days.

"On budget. On time. No muss. No fuss. The project was demolishing old driveway, large, and installation of concrete pavers. It seemed like a complicated project to me: four different slopes and a banked curve. Mark said it was no big deal. The paving is beautiful and the construction crew seemed quick and talented. Even the demolition and grading was really something to see. Everything cleaned up. Looks like they were never there except a beautiful new driveway."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

A 500-square-foot driveway can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $35,000, depending on the type of pavers you choose. Grass and concrete pavers are more affordable, while stone and cobblestone pavers are on the higher end of that price range. You’ll save some money by DIYing the installation, though we highly recommend sticking with a professional for this type of driveway installation.

Quality pavers and correct installation handle temperature variations. Proper maintenance is crucial in severe climates to prevent issues like heaving.

In most cases, you don’t need a permit to repave your driveway, although some exceptions exist. If you’re widening your driveway and plan on widening the apron as well, you’ll usually need a permit from the Department of Transportation in your area. This permit costs between $50 and $300 in most cases. Most municipalities will also require a certified and insured contractor do the work relating to the apron and curb cut. You can contact your building department or ask your paving company if you need a permit. Your driveway professional will usually pull the permit for you.

Yes, you should lightly wet the sand with a hose before laying the pavers on top. This activates the bonding agents in the sand, ensuring that your pavers don’t shift around during the installation process. However, you should make sure that the sand is not soaked; overwatering can cause the sand and pavers to not set properly.

You’ll first need to install a base underneath your pavers for extra stability and drainage. Otherwise, the pavers can sink into the ground, and you’ll have to reinstall them. Use a base gravel layer of 4 to 6 inches for walkways and 10 to 12 inches for driveways. Compact your gravel layer every 2 to 4 inches so it’s nice and solid. After you install your gravel base, apply a 1-inch layer of sand on top.
