"We couldn't have asked for a better experience! PGDG came out to give us a custom evaluation and rendering of the driveway gate, built, painted and installed the gate in a timely and efficient manner. They were even thoughtful enough to consider a wallstop on the side of our house to make sure the wind wouldn't carry the gate into the window! They had amazing service and built a beautiful product. We would definitely use them again!"

"Robert and his crew did a wonderful job installing a new concrete driveway. Robert is very professional, kind and courteous and it was a pleasure to work with him. Robert returned all of my calls quickly and was always on time (in fact, most days he was early to arrive). The driveway looks amazing and I am very pleased with the results! I would highly recommend Robert and his team for any concrete work you need to have done."

"As my husband and I live in Southern California, I had been looking for a year for a good way to convert our water-thirsty lawn to a drought resistant front yard. Having visited my friend's home, I noticed her yard and fell in love with the design.

After contacting Motti and explaining to him what I wanted and that the city had a rebate program, the design was born, which was included in the price. Motti is not only a landscaper, but an arborist which gave me the confidence I needed as I did not want the yard to just look good, but to make sure that what was planted would thrive.

I showed Motti a couple of pictures of a yard I found and told him"... I wanted this plant, that tree and ooh that's pretty,I want that too". So, the tree, which I got two of are Blue Palos Verde of which I got two, the plant is Mexican Sage and the pretty things are Red Pencil sticks. In addition to those Motti did his magic and picked the rest of the plants. I also explained to him that I wanted depth and that I did not want a flat front yard which he succeeded in accomplishing both, beautifully. He and his guys worked for a solid week to convert our yard. The grass and tree was hauled away, sprinklers were converted to a drip system. I allowed Motti freedom to place plants and trees where he wanted because,as I explained to him, I would not want him to tell me how to do my job so I will not tell him how to do his.

He is extremely easy to speak to and really listened and answered all my questions and concerns. The yard came out better then I ever expected and it's a joy to watch it all grow.

We've had a lot of people come to our door and ask us about who did the work which has reinforced my confidence in having chosen Green Republic Landscapes to do our yard."

"We needed asphalt repair and resurfacing on our 50+ year old driveway. Not exactly an attractive project for concrete / asphalt companies that typically prefer large projects. But CSI responded right away and scheduled an appointment for the following day to inspect the driveway. They came back to me within hours with a reasonable written estimate. The work was completed in two visits over the next two weeks, as the asphalt repair needed time to cure before applying a new topcoat. Thorough clean up and removal of old asphalt and debris was provided. Outstanding quality work performed by friendly and honest people. Would not hesitate to use them again. Thank you, David, Kyle and crew for a job well done!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Like all driveway materials, asphalt can crack in the wrong conditions and with age. Many things can cause asphalt to crack, including shifting soil or settling under the foundation. Other common causes are driving oversized vehicles on the asphalt, tree roots, and using rock salt during the snowy season. Proper installation and sealing the driveway every 10 years can help prevent cracks.

The choice between asphalt and concrete depends on your priorities, budget, and climate.

Concrete is generally more durable, lasting up to 50 years with minimal upkeep, and offers more customization options like staining and stamping, which can add more to a home's value. However, it is more expensive upfront and can be prone to cracking in cold climates where water can freeze and expand.

Asphalt is typically cheaper and quicker to install and is easier to repair. It performs better in colder climates. However, it requires more maintenance, including regular resealing, has a shorter lifespan, and can get hot and sticky in intense sunlight.

Ultimately, if durability and long-term value are key, concrete is often the better choice. If upfront cost and performance in cold weather are more important, asphalt may be preferable.

In most cases, you don’t need a permit to repave your driveway, although some exceptions exist. If you’re widening your driveway and plan on widening the apron as well, you’ll usually need a permit from the Department of Transportation in your area. This permit costs between $50 and $300 in most cases. Most municipalities will also require a certified and insured contractor do the work relating to the apron and curb cut. You can contact your building department or ask your paving company if you need a permit. Your driveway professional will usually pull the permit for you.

Whether it's worth it to install a heated driveway depends on how often you'll use it, your lifestyle, and your budget. If you live in a mild climate with little snowfall, then installing a built-in heated driveway system may not be worth it. If you live in a region that experiences mild snowfall, then a portable mat could work better. However, if you live in a region with heavy snowfall, it makes sense to invest in a built-in heated driveway.

An asphalt overlay or top coat costs between $3 and $7 per square foot. For a standard, single-car driveway that’s 10 feet wide and 20 feet long, that’s a total of between $600 and $1,400. For a two-car driveway, you’re looking at a total of between $1,200 and $3,000.
