"We are very happy with the service and the value. Daniel has some really experienced subcontractors in his arsenal and was able to help us achieve a substantial renovation at a very reasonable price. He was flexible as our design plans changed and had good ideas and pushed us to do a couple larger projects that we were a bit uncertain about until we understood how feasible it was to accomplish. The results speak for themselves."

"I recently, had some minor repairs done around my house. Drywall patching and couple of small electrical jobs. I hired North Mountain Contracting. The contractor was on time, courteous and knowledgeable. He explained what he was doing and why, which I really appreciated. Will use him again on my future projects. Highly recommend."

"All of the reviews about Scottie and Better Built Sheds are absolutely correct! After lengthy research and discussions with Scottie, I contracted with his company from my home in Kansas to demo and replace 3 decks on my second home in Flagstaff. We both agreed that a great deal of trust would be required on both our parts in this long-distance relationship. I consider myself most fortunate that Scottie could re-arrange his schedule to complete all of the work before I would arrive in Flagstaff. I made periodic payments as the work progressed and Scottie called me often and sent me pictures regularly as reassurance that all was moving forward. I could not believe how terrific everything looked when I arrived! I learned later that many neighbors had stopped by while the work was underway and were quite impressed. Most notably, one of my neighbors is a retired carpenter. He stopped by the house regularly and admired not only the quality of the work, but the work ethic of Scottie and his team. Scottie is a man who runs a business that performs with a clear focus on understanding a customer's needs and concerns. He then takes great pride in delivering a result greater than your expectations!"

"I chose them because the pitch man convinced me they were the best and they were $260  while others I called were $300 and adding termite inspection was $325 and his was included in the $260. On Monday morning at 8am of the planned inspection day, we found the 'current' owner had not turned the electricity on thus, the inspection could not take place. We were emailed the bill would be an additional $65 for the trip charge as it was a good 100 miles round trip and our error, not theirs. I felt bad so I accepted the additional charge. There went my saving a buck. Next we were emailed a new appointment day, Thursday at  11am. The inspector arrived Thursday at 8am.  Needless to say, it confused my whole day arriving three hours early. The inspector really did a good job, explaining everything to me so that I understood. Then he presented me with a $325 bill that we had agreed on and I paid. It being early in the morning I wasn't thinking clearly but later I called the business office and said  -  "Since we have an email stating 11am and the inspector showed up at 8am, your mistake, so I should get my $65 back from the trip charge when it was our mistake." The business office wanted nothing to do with that idea. The $65 was for the extra time and mileage, she said. What about the disruption to my schedule showing up at the wrong time. It didn't matter. Every other time I spoke with the woman in the office she was very kind but suddenly she wasn't any more.  Because they strictly wouldn't change the bill when it was their fault and because they are so far away, I will not use this company again.

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.

If you have wood decking, there are several common deck problems that you might encounter. For example, your natural wood boards may fade over time due to things like sunlight, weather, and debris. On top of that, some types of wood decking can rot, grow mold, and attract destructive pests—including termites, carpenter ants, and woodpeckers.

Materials for a second-story deck must be weather- and rot-resistant, though the specific choices will largely be determined by your budget and style preference. Pressure-treated wood is on the lower end of the price scale, but it can be customized and stained the way you like it. Composite, on the other hand, is pricier for installation and has fewer options for customization, but you’ll save money and time in the long run because it requires little maintenance.

The average cost to professionally clean or pressure wash a deck is around $150, with prices typically ranging from $100 to $600. Several factors influence the final price, including the deck's size, material, condition, and how long it has been since its last cleaning. For a smaller deck of about 300 square feet, you might pay around $100. For a larger deck of 1,000 square feet or more, the cost could be closer to $300 to $400. Decks that are very dirty or haven't been cleaned in years may require more time and special detergents, which will increase the price. The deck's material also plays a role. Wood decks often cost more to clean because they require a gentle power washing technique to avoid damage. Composite decks are typically less expensive to clean, and cleaning a metal deck may cost around $100.

Your deck may look or feel fuzzy after pressure washing because the high-pressure spray tears some wood fibers as it removes the outer layer of dead and discolored wood. This fuzzy effect is a normal part of the pressure-washing process and will go away on its own in a few weeks. You can opt to spot-sand your deck if you’d like to remove it more quickly.
