"The guys who came to fix my fireplace were on time and friendly. They were able to fix my fireplace but the wasn’t a ton of communication up front on cost or extra costs on what they found. While I’m happy I️ have s working fireplace it seemed a bit expensive."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Once your ashes have fully cooled, you can place them in a heavy-duty trash bag and put them into the bin with your normal trash. If you have wood ash, you can add the ash to your composting pile or sprinkle it over your grass or plants directly for added nutrients.

The size of your pizza oven will determine the number of bricks necessary to build it. So the bigger your pizza oven, the more fire bricks you’ll need to purchase. Keep in mind that fire bricks cost about $3 each.

While hardwoods are the best woods to burn, a few types of woods should be avoided when burning. Wood that has not had time to season, or “green wood,” should be avoided. The extra water in the wood makes it smoke horribly, which is not a quality you want. Additionally, it’s best to avoid any wood that is manufactured or has been treated, including coated or sealed wood, painted wood, or pressure-treated wood. These woods have chemicals that will be released into your air when burned and can cause health problems.

You can find replacement stove parts for popular brands at local hardware stores or major retailers. However, you might find the best deal by directly buying online from the manufacturer. While there are some universal parts, the manufacturer can also help you find parts that are specific to your stove’s make and model.

You can safely build a fire pit on your patio as long as you use porous, fire-resistant pavers or a fire pit mat over existing pavers. Otherwise, you’ll need to have exposed ground beneath your pit. You’ll also need to make sure the location for the fire pit is far enough away from your house and any other nearby structures.
